Acerca de esta escucha

Young Nina Macciocco weds handsome Italian soldier Angelo Taglieri in an arranged marriage, and they move to Steubenville, Ohio. Angelo works in a steel mill, and Nina cares for their daughter. They live happily in a house on Seventh Street. Years later, Angelo dies.

Steubenville is a rough town where Mafia don Vincenzo Santucci runs everything from bars to restaurants to brothels. His vast influence extends over some local doctors, lawyers, judges, and police.

Vincenzo’s cousin, Vito Santucci, is also a Mafia don in Italy. Brothers Enzo and Bruno Pagano work for him. Everyone likes even-tempered Enzo, but rough, nasty Bruno is feared. Enzo is sent to Steubenville to help run the illegal operations there. He and his wife Jesse are Angelo and Nina’s neighbors on Seventh Street.

In Italy, Bruno marries Vito’s daughter, Maria, with plans to take over as don. In the aftermath of a horrible kidnapping, a pregnant Maria dies in childbirth. Grief-stricken, Maria’s parents, take their own lives, and Bruno goes to Steubenville.
Once there, Bruno manages the Roma Café for Vincenzo and runs illegal gambling. When he needs a new cook for his restaurant, Bruno offers the job to Enzo’s neighbor, newly widowed Nina Taglieri.

Nina declines but realizes she must work to pay off Angelo’s substantial medical bills; she accepts the job. Brought together through their shared grief, Nina and Bruno marry. Soon after, Nina discovers he is a member of the Mafia in town. An alcoholic, he beats and abuses her, and she lives a life of fear. As the years pass, anyone who helps Nina finds themselves in trouble with Bruno.

Many times, Nina tries to leave Bruno but never succeeds. She even goes to the police. Much to her surprise, a police officer turns her back over to Bruno in exchange for erasing his gambling debt. She doesn’t know who she can trust.

Bruno often finds himself in trouble with Mafia don Vincenzo. When someone sends Bruno a threatening note, he vows to kill the author.
Nina finds the note and thinks it’s another threat from Bruno intended for her. Will she figure out the mystery of the threatening note? Was it sent by Bruno or to Bruno?

Nina is finally determined to leave her husband. How will she get away? Where will she go? What will happen to her family?
