Fifteen years after she swore never to set foot in Ashwell again, Althea Gardner
is brought back to her hometown by the suicide of her high school best friend,
Claire Appleton.
Beatrix, Claire’s grief-stricken mother and now the last surviving member of
the Appleton clan, begs Althea to stay with her at Appleton Hill. Nursing her
own broken heart, Althea ends up as a guest in this vast and isolated property
filled with the shadows of people that no longer walk this earth.
As the days go by, the locals’ suspicions about Claire’s death create doubts in
Althea’s own mind, causing her to launch a discreet investigation. But when she
wakes up each morning bearing a fresh wound on her body, instead of running
away, she develops an insatiable craving to learn more about the Appleton
family’s dark history.
The lines become blurred as Althea starts to question her own motives. Does
