Jacob Good was a man who could expect to see many ghosts. Angry spirits - and the wraiths of men and women filled with hate for Jacob - paraded their soured souls in front of him, surrounding Jacob with their rage.
After all, Jacob had killed a lot of people.
Now, a frightening, tragic ghost is taunting Jacob as he's about to retire, making his life a nightmare, and demanding that Jacob make sure the last guilty murderer doesn't miss his appointment with Jacob's noose. But who is to be Jacob's final victim? And do they deserve to escape the rope, or not? Will Jacob's last killing be a dreadful mistake?

Spooky Story, Nicely Done

Jacob Good is a hangman in a prison in the 1940's. Just two more hangings and he can retire. That's when he starts seeing and hearing ghosts (or something similar!). He begins to have doubts about the executions he has performed over the years and especially regrets the one of a young woman named Madeline.
The story is predictable, but well-written. If you enjoy the old classic ghost tales, this one is well worth your time. The author makes you feel the angst that Jacob feels and will give you pause in your thoughts about capital punishment.
Mr. Hague is a good writer and does a good job narrating his own work. I will definitely be reading more by Mr. Hague!
All of the guilty must hang

The style, setting and narrative make it seem like a classic story from decades ago, even though I know it was just written a little while ago. But that's just the writing genius of Graeme Hague -- one one paragraph, he can take you on a journey of a hundred years back in time and convince you that you're listening to Charles Dickens one minute and Edgar Allen Poe the next minute.
Mr. Hague also narrates his own work, something that you don't see (hear) often, but with this author, it works. He has a silky Australian accent that I enjoy listening to. And when an author narrates his own work, you know that the inflection and emphasis is exactly where he wanted it because that is how he heard it in his head when he wrote it. I was offered a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. However, I will be looking for more from this author for sure.
This is a short piece and it was over far too soon, but that just speaks to how quickly I got pulled into the story. But it's silly to complain about the duration of a story, long or short. Ideally, the story is as long as it takes to tell. Wanting more from a story and/or author just tells me that he's good. So give me more, GH!
Classic, eerie story

If you could sum up The Hangman's Ghost in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, good and disappointing. How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would’ve changed the ending. The story was pretty good but I was disappointed with the way it ended.Any additional comments?

This is the shortest of all G.M. Hague’s Horror stories. Since this is short it moves along quick but tells a good story. All of his stories are great; but, out of the current 5 stories released this one ranks in the middle with Vol II and IV being my favorites. Looking forward to more.
As with all of his other Horror Stories, Hague does a fantastic job narrating the story and puts you right there in the noose next to Jacob. Still hoping to hear a bird or frog in the background.

I enjoyed this story a lot. It is a short story of novella but it certainly gets everything in. It is about a hangman and he is near retirement, he has only a couple of 'clients' to go when he starts hearing a girl's voice. There was only one girl that stands out in his memory of being on the gallows, a 16 year old found with a blood ax and her family dead. The girl never spoke all during the trial or said nothing up to the time she was executed. There is also a lady in the crowd now that is bothering the hangman, he thinks she is a reporter. Nothing is as it appears. Good short story. Not spooky but just sad and creepy. Good for those people that want to read a spooky story but don't want it to be too spooky. I enjoyed it and the author also narrated it and did an excellent job!

The story is well read by the author and he gives the main characters their own distinct voice. He is good at setting the atmosphere and mentioning small details which add to the believability of the story. Shorts like this are great for a daily commute as you can take the whole story in one setting.
