 It is the calm before the storm.

Near the capital, a Navy captain struggles to come to grips with a world changed beyond reckoning. Bureaucrats, embracing solutions unsavory and compromises unforgiving, will test Captain Pride’s loyalties. He struggles to follow the rules of civilized behavior in a world increasingly gone savage. As he struggles to keep his family safe, old moralities will be among the casualties.
To the west, the General and those who follow him fight for their place. Always fear and hunger drive them forward, sometimes as the hunter, sometimes as the hunted. But the General will not be deterred. He refuses to run eternally in the wilderness merely trying to survive.
The end of the world, unredeemed and unrepentant, looms large. What new thing begs to replace it? What new thing begs to be born, slouching from out of the dark places? The old is swept away, the hunter becomes the prey. The creative and good expire. The creation becomes the creator. Mortals and immortals compete to reign. Whether they will reign in heaven or hell is yet to be determined.
