Acerca de esta escucha

Award-winning storyteller Bill Gordh (Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence winner, National Association of Parenting Periodicals Gold Award winner) presents this folk tale live with no script, accompanied only by his own dynamic banjo playing.

A fisherman who fished from the land out into the sea was fishing one day when he heard singing and laughter coming from a grotto. He went around the rocks to discover seven women dancing in the shallow water. They were not dressed, but on the rock where the fisherman was standing, he saw seven fish-tail skins! He watched the dancers. He fell in love with the youngest. He found the smallest tail, rolled it up, and tucked it into his belt. He threw a rock into the middle of the dancers and hid behind the rock where he was standing.

The sisters ran to the rock and slipped on their tales, and the mermaids swam away. All except one. He invited her to come with him and be his wife. She did not want to come, but she did. He hid her tail. He loved her, but she missed her life in the sea. Every day she would walk the beach. They had children. One day he came home, and she was not there. She had found her tail. Now it is the fisherman who walks the beach each day, longing for the love of his life.

It’s all true. Mermaids are real! Why would someone make this up? Listen for yourself. You too will BELIEVE!

This short tale about the fisherman and the mermaid (where the beautiful mermaids leave their tails on the shore while they are swimming) is mesmerizing and sad. The fisherman hid the tail of the youngest, most beautiful mermaid and asked her to marry him . . . even though the water was calling to her, she went . . . the lived together many years, had children . . . until one day when the fisherman returned home, his wife was gone, having found her tail . . .
