Dr. John Townsend
Acerca de esta escucha
Do you have anyone in your life who can't seem to stick with a project, meet a deadline, or even clean up after themselves? All of us feel we deserve special treatment sometimes. Some people live with this entitled attitude, such as:
- Professionals who wander from job to job looking for a boss who will see them as amazing as they consider themselves to be - whether they're productive or not
- Young adults who refuse to grow up and so go nowhere
- Spouses or dates who believe, "I'm special, and I deserve more than you're giving me"
- Leaders who expect special treatment because of their position, not because of their character
If you have a difficult relationship with an entitled person, or if you have discovered entitlement in yourself, understand this: It doesn't have to stay this way. There is a cure. It's called the Hard Way and it works.
In The Entitlement Cure, Dr. John Townsend explains that the Hard Way is a habit that focuses on doing whatever is needed even if it is difficult, uncomfortable, takes longer, and requires more energy. Dr. Townsend offers daily steps, such as risk-taking, to help you or those you love choose the Hard Way.
Ultimately, entitlement fails us. We don't develop the character abilities and relationships necessary to reach success and become the people God intended us to be. By contrast, Hard Way people have better relationships, reach their goals, have a clear job direction, enjoy rich spiritual growth, and are equipped to face and solve challenges.
As Dr. Townsend writes, "Stand against entitlement in every form in which it manifests itself. Resolve your own tendencies toward the disease. Be a loving and firm force for helping those in its trap to find life and hope. And you will make the world a better place". Discover why the Hard Way is the best way in this practical guide to true success.

The person who pushes your buttons is likely someone who matters to you - a spouse, a parent, a boss, a fellow church member. Almost always this difficult person is connected to you by blood, love, faith, or money, so you can't just end the relationship without causing pain and upheaval in your life. Our friends and today's culture will often advise us to abandon such relationships quickly - to end this unpleasant chapter and get on with our lives. Psychologist and author Dr. John Townsend disagrees.

Historia
Modern medical technology is allowing us to live longer and fuller lives than ever before. But with changes in the way we understand medicine come changes in the way we understand death. Once a familiar and gentle process, death has come to be something from which we shy away, preferring to fight it desperately than to accept its inevitability. Palliative care has a long tradition in Britain, where Dr. Kathryn Mannix has practiced it for 30 years. In this book, she shares beautifully crafted stories from a lifetime of caring for the dying.

Historia
Each generation of therapists can boast of only a few writers like Deborah Luepnitz, whose sympathy and wit shine in her fine, luminous prose. In Schopenhauer's Porcupines, she recounts five true stories from her practice, stories of patients who range from the super-rich to the destitute, who grapple with panic attacks, psychosomatic illness, marital despair, and sexual recklessness. Intimate, original, and triumphantly funny, Schopenhauer's Porcupines goes further than any other book in illuminating "how talking helps".

Historia
In Out Cold, science writer Phil Jaekl chronicles the underappreciated story of human innovation with cold, from Ancient Egypt, where it was used to treat skin irritations, to 18th-century London, where scientists used it in their first explorations of suspended animation. Throughout history, physicians have used cold to innovate life extension, enable distant space missions, and explore consciousness.

Historia
What happens when you learn to communicate better with everyone? No doubt you’ve had to endure a painfully awkward conversation, more than once in your life. Maybe it was a stranger, a colleague, or a date. Maybe it was a group discussion. You found yourself breaking a sweat, not knowing what to say. The more time passed, the more tense you became. You thought about all the communication books you’ve read in your life and wished you had them with you…to knock yourself unconscious as a way out of the conversation. The best thing about the whole situation was the moment it ended.

Great author

I had a difficult time paying attention to and digesting some of the information. I felt as though I was sitting in a university Masters class with a professor that was limited by time restraints. Just a little more slowly read with a few pauses would make all the difference in the world. I say this to inform you that you need to be ready to intently concentrate. Reading the book might help you get more out of it than listening.

Where does The Entitlement Cure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is the second audiobook I've ever listened to (first one was in 2009 and now its 2016), and it was my reason for joining audible because I wanted to read it so badly. This sets a very high standard for audiobooks I will listen to in the future; was very helpful so much that I bought a physical copy to read it again. What did you like best about this story?
Well worded, the syntax and writing style is very understandable, relaxed, and thorough. I felt like some sections/examples/descriptions described myself or others in my mind to a T. Chapter 6 was especially life changing for me to develop the structure, and very concrete, doable strategies to bring about discipline. I also very much enjoyed the various scripture references, for that extra understanding and motivation. What about John Townsend’s performance did you like?
The narration was awesome and the narrator really points out parts of the text I would most likely go over without particularly noting if I was reading the physical copy. His tone of voice and clarity helped bring the message of this book home much better for my own perspective.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it made me cry a few times as I could personally relate to many of the entitlement examples, and of the common feelings these mentioned people felt: overwhelmed, discouraged, deserving, etc. But the text of the book is very graceful that it doesn't criticize the person-who-needs-help as much as it rather meets you where you are, and tries to help you, and provides a guideline for your building of structure.Any additional comments?
Very much recommend.Helped me to develop discipline
