Acerca de esta escucha

Inspired by the lives of the forgotten orphans of World War Two, this heart-wrenching and moving tale is about fighting for your loved ones when all hope is lost....

East Prussia, 1944. When the war comes to 12-year-old Agnes’ village, she finds herself stuck between two terrifying armies. Every man she’s ever known has been forced to fight for the Nazis, and as the Red Army approaches every innocent woman and child is made to leave their home. Then tragedy strikes and she and her brother, Dieter, find themselves alone in vast, isolated woodland, and Agnes must protect Dieter at all costs....

Cambridge, present day. When her beloved grandfather dies, Freya is distraught. Not only has she lost the man who helped raise her, but she knows the story of his time as a pilot in World War Two, and her family’s history, is gone forever. But then Freya meets her new next-door neighbor Agnes, whose accent is just like her grandfather’s. She has a framed picture of a snow-covered castle that looks strangely familiar and a weather-beaten image of a little blond boy in braces and boots.

But though Agnes’ past may hold the key to unlocking Freya’s family secrets, it’s also a painful story Agnes vowed never to tell. It’s about the brother Agnes fought to protect, the young boy who risked everything to protect her, and it will change everything Freya has ever known about her family....

Breathtaking, this story of courage and survival is perfect for fans of Before We Were Yours, The Orphan’s Tale, and The Orphan Train.

An eye opening look at life during WWII for orphaned children. Well researched and full of interesting scenarios.

Wondrous Tale

My heart breaks as I read this story. How could human beings be so cruel towards others, towards children?

The narrator has a lovely voice, and the story is nice. I almost stopped listening several times. The narrator gives over the top enthusiasm for EVERY. SINGLE. EVENT. Perhaps some readers enjoy that type of story telling but I cringed every few minutes. I usually enjoy this author but I couldn’t get past overly dramatic narration.

Narration detracts from story.

usually I love this authors work but this story dragged and the ending was extremely weak like she just wanted to be done with it. if i didn't listen to the end I would have returned it. the narration of the characters was stereotypic poor accents
