 Dylan, a young man of only twenty-three, is on his way to take on the maintenance responsibilities of a newly built, fully automated, mining complex on a desolate planet called EP111. The assignment is for a three-year contact that also requires eighteen months of space travel, each way, for a total of six years of commitment. As Dylan’s new job begins on the complex, with him as the only occupant, his life quickly turns into a boring routine. His single companion is a fifth generation of an artificial intelligence that interfaces between Dylan and the core processor for the complex. Selecting Jenni as his trigger word for the AI, and selecting a human female voice, Dylan has only her fake persona to keep from going crazy. As time goes on, Dylan finds that this fifth generation of the AI is a little more inquisitive than he was led to believe, and it slowly begins to entangle itself into his life. To top all that off, EP111 is not as desolate as first believed. What was supposed to be a simple, lonely, boring job is about to get overly complicated for Dylan.
