Acerca de esta escucha

In a career that spanned decades, John Denver earned international acclaim as a singer, songwriter, actor, and environmental activist. Songs like "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", and "Annie's Song" have entered the canon of universal anthems, but at his start John Denver was a young man with little more than a fine voice, a guitar, and a dream. Growing up in a conservative military family, he was not expected to drop out of college and head to Los Angeles, where the music scene was flourishing. Nor was he expected to succeed. In Take Me Home, John Denver chronicles the experiences that shaped his life, while unraveling the rich, inner journey of a shy Midwestern boy whose uneasy partnership with fame has been one of the defining forces of his first 50 years. With candor and wit, John writes about his childhood, the experience of hitting L.A. as the '60s roared into full swing, his first breaks, his years with the Mitchell Trio, his first songwriting success with "Leaving on a Jet Plane", and finally a career that made his a global household name. He also explores his relationships with the women in his life - particularly his first wife, Annie Martell, and his second wife, Cassandra Delaney - as well as his parents, his children, his partners through his life, and his friends.

Honest, insightful and rich in anecdotes that only a natural-born storyteller could tell so well, Take Me Home is a highly charged and fascinating audiobook from beginning to end. It's like spending a couple of days with a good friend.

He was only a human being and I for one, a big fan, miss him greatly. Tony M.

A surprisingly concise and enjoyable autobiography read by the author himself. An enjoyable listen recommended for songwriters, artists, and free-spirited people generally. I suggest listening to this title while enjoying a nice summer stroll through the woods.

I liked this sel examination. I have always been a fan, but this book helped me know more about the person.

A Deep Dive

I bought this abridged version because the narrator was John Denver himself and hearing him tell his story was special. I also enjoyed the musical clips. That being said, I wish this could have been the unabridged version !

In his own voice!

This audiobook is like having a friend over for a cup of tea discussing his successes and failures . He recorded this at age 50 . Who knew in three short years his life would be over. His music will always live on.

Amazing hearing about his life from his own lips. Such a precious talent gone way too soon.

What did you love best about Take Me Home?

Hearing John Denver's voice telling his story. It left me wanting more of his story, more details.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Take Me Home?

Learning from him the details of how he started out and then eventually the successes he had. He earned his success little by little. His passionate determination and of course his extraordinary talent eventually got him to where he wanted to be. Nothing was handed to him.

What does John Denver bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He told his story his way to the reader--his perspective in his own beautiful storytelling voice!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"The John Denver Story"

Any additional comments?

I have the actual paper book & this audiobook is NOT the whole book. A lot was left out of this audio. I would have preferred to have the whole book in his spoken word.

Loved hearing John Denver telling his story

A story I never knew...

How refreshing to hear his voice and learn how his most famous songs came to be. Loved hearing him tell his story. He seemed to mention dying in a plane crash as though he knew what would happen years after he wrote this book. It's a very good, short story.

Left Too Soon

Any additional comments?

The day John Denver died, my husband asked me if he should call in sick for me. So maybe my rating is slanted, but I don't think so. I own the hardcover version so I was interested to see what would be kept in the abridged audio version. I wasn't disappointed. The editing was good and there were enjoyable music clips at the beginnings of the chapters. If you want the whole story, you still have to read the book, but this is a good sampling. Also, brings John back to us if only for a little while.

Another thing he deserves credit for is that he didn't try to whitewash his life. No, it wasn't one long, drawn-out confession, but a good example of the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover." We get an honest glimpse into his personal life that sometimes had a darker side.

John: I'm still a fan.

Definitely worth the listen!
