This novel covers a nine-year span in the known Star Wars Universe, filling-in the backstory of most of the existing characters as they travel from Episode III to Episode IV, while introducing many new characters. While this is an unauthorized work, it makes every attempt to be true to the entire lore of Mr. George Lucas' vision while answering many of the questions raised.

Following the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime.

It is an age of exploration. Jedi travel the galaxy, expanding their understanding of the Force and all the worlds and beings connected by it. Meanwhile, the Republic, led by its two chancellors, works to unite worlds in an ever-growing community among near and distant stars. After a series of staggering losses, the Republic seems to finally have the villainous Nihil marauders on the run, and it looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel.
