Acerca de esta escucha

Follow this Christian soldier's march, from the 'cradle' to the grave - in the life story of Billy White. Read a book and gain insight to my family, the 'Greatest Generation,' and the psychological struggles soldiers like him face due to combat. Whether the reader remembers the main character as 'Billy,' or 'Granddaddy' - this emotional story based on the real life of my grandfather is sure to grab your attention and appreciate the experiences of those who volunteer service to our country. I listened to this (finally, sorry Mr. Fortq) on my way up to see The Ark Experience today. Let me tell you: this guy can write some stuff! As I listened, I was wrapped into the world of Billy. I could feel what he must have felt. I could hear what he must have heard. And my heart broke a few times. I laughed a few, as well.

I don't think we hear enough of these stories about our Greatest Generation - everything the men went through and the women who supported them. I never realized the horror that could befall such a stoic person. Billy, from what I could tell, tried wrestling with his demons on his own because he didn't want to burden his family, namely his lovely Angel Face.

If you get the chance to read (or listen - it was really well done, though the AI had a hard time being consistent with "Abbeville"), you will find yourself immersed into a world pre-WWII following the life of Billy, a good ol' southern boy who just wanted to serve God. But, when Japan struck Pearl Harbor, he found himself directed to a new mission.

Full of ups and downs, moments that make you laugh and others that bring tears to your eyes, this story is one that needs to be heard - out of respect for the boys who never came home and those who came home forever changed. I encourage you to take the time to listen (under 5 hours) or read about Billy's lasting impression on his family. I'm sure there's a Billy in your life who can identify to some degree and this story may help you understand him a little better.

Great job, Mr. Fort! Your storytelling is topnotch.

Thank you for sharing your grandfather’s story. Made me reflect on my own grandfather’s WWII story. They were an especially strong generation! Definitely recommend for anyone!
