Ann Coulter
“The immutable fact of politics in America is this: liberals hate conservatives.”
Ann Coulter, whose examination of the Clinton impeachment was a major national bestseller and earned widespread praise, now takes on an even tougher issue. At a time when Democrats and Republicans should be overwhelmingly congenial, American political debate has become increasingly hostile, overly personal, and insufferably trivial. Whether conducted in Congress or on the political talk shows, played out at dinners or cocktail parties, politics is a nasty sport.
At the risk of giving away the ending: It’s all liberals’ fault.
Cultlike in their behavior, vicious in their attacks on Republicans, and in almost complete control of mainstream national media, the left has been merciless in portraying all conservatives as dumb, racist, power hungry, homophobic, and downright scary. This despite the many Republican accomplishments of the last few decades, as well as the Bush administration’s expert handling of the country’s affairs in the wake of the worst attacks on American soil and of the war that followed.
With incisive reasoning and meticulous research, Ann Coulter examines the events and personalities that have shaped modern political discourse—the bickering, backstabbing, and name-calling that have made cultural mountains out of partisan molehills. She demonstrates how the media, especially, are biased—and usually wrongheaded—and have done all in their power to obfuscate the issues and the people behind them, bending over backward to villainize and belittle the right, while rarely missing an opportunity to praise the left.
Perhaps if conservatives had had total control over every major means of news dissemination for a quarter century, they would have forgotten how to debate, too, and would just call liberals stupid and mean. But that’s an alternative universe. In this universe, the public square is wall-to-wall liberal propaganda.
Refreshingly honest and unerringly timely, Slander continues where Bernard Goldberg’s number one bestselling Bias left off.

Al Franken is perhaps a BIT (although not much) funnier than Ann but Slander is a MUCH better book. And unlike Franken's, this book does NOT stoop to the level of personal attacks and unjustified invective.
It's not surprising the hard-core liberals choose to slam this book. But if you've got an even slightly open mind, I suggest you give it a chance and take a listen. Like me, you may find yourself (very) pleasantly surprised.
Unfairly maligned

I am not a NY liberal, a group that Ann Coulter repeatedly attacks in this book, along with anything having to do with the NY Times. Though she berates NY liberals and the Times more than is necessary, Slander is a very good book that exposes many illusions about Al Gore and George Bush that I had come to believe during the 2000 election campaign. If you were a Gore supporter before the debates, didn't you think he would wipe the floor with Bush? Weren't you surprised and angry (at Gore) when he didn't? Slander details the educational records of both candidates and, if you hadn't done your own homework like I didn't, clearly shows why, due to media influence, you may have been duped into expecting the smarter(?) Gore to defeat the dumber(?) Bush.
I also was interested by Coulter's views on Reagan and need to revisit his presidency after hearing her views on him. Being fresh out of high school and having been raised by blue colar, union democrats, Reagan was never going to be my friend.
I can't agree with her brief attack on John McCain, the Republican I would have voted for if that party had seen fit to back him. In my opinion, campaign finance reform is a good issue and McCain was a terrific Presidential candidate.
Ann Coulter displays her formidible intellect and not a little humor in this book which I actually recommend more for liberals than conservatives. For conservatives, its really just another choir preach but for liberals, Slander makes for a terrific self-examination, if you can stand it, which is much needed in the wake of the 2000 election debacle and to prepare for 2004.
Liberals Should Listen to the Book

I enjoyed hearing Ann's point of view. I know her facts are accurate because I remember seeing and hearing much of the recent news coverage she discusses. It was helpful to have her point of view to put it into perspective.
I don't like many of the people she talks about but before it was just a gut feeling. Now I feel justified.
Good enough to listen to a few times...

Strong Liberals: don't bother. Just point, laugh, & keep being an idiot.
Conservatives & questioning Liberals: You need to read this book and start paying attention to the country. I'm looking at things a lot more closely now. I'm also reading 'Treason' right now.
Wow.

One response to a negative review that I had read before purchasing these books (Slander & Treason; bought them together) about the author's use of Lexus-Nexus searches as evidence. It is necessary to use that when the topic you are researching is the media. Since one of the points of these books is that a blatant, left-leaning bias exists in the media and that it enables the Democrat party, she had to use examples from the media. One cannot write with research from Harvard and Yale regarding the media in this case because no supporting viewpoint could be published from such a place.
My review stands as a stellar performance in both books. I recommend them together; what a pair!
Incredible how lefties just won't accept the truth
