He loved her. Then lost her. Now time rewrites the story. Shockwave—AI with a rubber soul. Reality under siege. Can love survive the quantum storm?
A Science Fiction epic story about how little shockwaves from outer space impact our lives every day and how the biggest shockwave of all time may be just around the corner. Watch the News at 11.
The story begins nearly three hundred years into the future where humans have solved most of our problems except for one of the biggest ones – whether or not God exists and why we should care to know the definitive and final answer. The answer to this question will become the greatest shockwave of all time.
In Shockwave, time is not linear. It pulses, trembles, and crashes—an ocean of probability whose shifting tides shape evolution, memory, and love itself. Michael Mathiesen's genre-bending novel is a symphonic exploration of the human condition—brilliantly fusing speculative science with a narrative of deeply personal transformation. Our main character, Max Harper shifts back and forth between two completely different life paths, each of them snapping into place and reshaping reality as more and more shockwaves hit the Earth. The success or failure of our colony on Mars is also subject to the same shockwaves.
Set in a near-future Earth reeling from inexplicable cosmic disturbances known as shockwaves—invisible, reality-altering waves that ripple through time itself. Sam Harper is an ordinary guy, a Real Estate broker, a novelist and a dreamer, whose groundbreaking novels and scientific discoveries sometimes draws the attention of global technocrats and spiritual leaders alike. But when a sudden, devastating shockwave erase large swaths of humanity’s collective memory—including Sam’s, events take a turn towards our extinction or our salvation with a high probability for both. Our future may depend on which love Sam ends up with in his life.
Sam is also partnered with an evolved form of Artificial Intelligence, the Algorithm that has been given complete control over our planet, AKA Big Al. His counterpart, Mr. Mars has control over the entire economy on Mars, competing with the Earth for its survival. The two algorithm’s battle against one another for supremacy over the entire system. When they move the planet Mars to an orbit closer to the sun, things really begin to heat up and the two human civilizations begin to compete and then merge into one, but not until the magnetic fields of both planets are linked to each other and one other monumental achievement for Mankind that is unmatched anywhere else in the universe. And, that's when things get very, very interesting.
But Shockwave is more than a thrilling traversal of alternate realities. It’s a love story written not in flowers or songs, but in neural frequencies and entropy curves. Sam and Lindsay’s connection becomes the novel’s gravitational anchor—a bond so enduring that even the erasure of time cannot dissolve it. Their reunion, when it happens, will not be a return—but an evolution.
The story crescendos toward a major Shockwave, the biggest one in your life and mine.
We’re going to be aware very soon that we are unique in the universe, that there is no life form like the human being anywhere and for this reason, we’ve been selected by God for a very special assignment that will impact not just our galaxy, but the rest of the entire universe itself.
In his most intimate and ambitious novel to date, Mathiesen crafts a tale that is at once speculative and spiritual, cosmic and personal. Shockwave is a cry into the vastness, a meditation on loss, time, and love’s unyielding persistence across the multiverse.
Once again, the author treats us to one of the best science fiction stories under the sun and in this case under the SECOND SUN as well. If you like sci-fi stories that expand your mind and lets you see into the future - this is!
