Acerca de esta escucha

Sherlock Holmes had never met a writer who had ridiculed him as bitterly as Samuel L. Clemens had. For that matter, Holmes had never met a writer who fancied himself a detective. Yet Sam Clemens not only unraveled Holmes' investigation into the murder of the hot-blooded woman on Thor Bridge, but also, while writing as Mark Twain, belittled Holmes' highly-touted detecting skills.

In this recently discovered narrative, Doctor Watson sets the record straight. He reveals other crimes related to the original murder while relating what prompted Clemens in a 1902 short story to deride the famous detective. Spurred on by such criticism, as well as by clues discovered in a classic tale by Bret Harte, Sherlock Holmes begins a new investigation, one that leads Holmes and Watson from the gardens of Windsor Castle to the spires of Oxford University in their efforts to track down a deranged assassin bent on wreaking even more havoc.

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson along with Samuel Clements are on a twisted journey through stories of various American authors and their adventures with a startling event towards the ending unraveling it all.

Truth stranger than fiction

The narrator makes this book come alive! Each character is portrayed brilliantly and makes the story so much better! I would listen to any book that this narrator does. I will be looking for Mr. Carling in other books.

Narrator is fantastic

Holmes & Watson work with Samuel Clemens to solve a murder with decades old roots. This is the third of Daniel D Victor’s SH and the American Literati series. The characters were true to form and there were a lot of references to both the ACD as well as Mark Twain’s novels and characters. It is a very good mystery and entertaining story. The narration was also outstanding. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

A great revisit to the Problem at Thor Bridge story. Interesting inclusion of literary figures, especially Samuel Clements. A very exciting story.

The author undertook to retell The Problem of Thor Bridge. It was definitely…different. I don’t know that it is better, but it was intriguing. Sherlock Holmes meets Mark Twain, and sparks eventually fly. It definitely had the scope of one of the novels of the Canon, but like the Canonical novels, I was unsatisfied with the ending.

There were a number of technical issues in the audio, where lines were repeated from time to time. This, coupled with misread and mispronounced words continually yanked me of the flow.

I will credit the narrator for excellent vocal characterizations. On the whole, this was an okay listen. So it’s up to you. If the idea of Holmes and Twain sounds appealing, give it a shot.

An interesting reexamination of Thor Bridge
