No one said life was going to be easy, but mine just keeps getting harder.
My best friend has been abducted by a madman who seems to have returned from the dead with the sole goal of seeking revenge against me. She’s my friend, but she’s also essential in finding a cure for a virus that has the potential to destroy the supernatural world.
Did I mention there’s a war brewing between supernaturals and humans? My people, the Legacy, were responsible for the first supernatural war, and now I’m tasked with preventing the second.

Prepare yourself for the many eye rolls and sighs of annoyment that are to come. A villian that is to be used in more than one installment must be powerful, cunning, intriguing, and scary as hell. Unfortunately, Connor only has power and I put an asterisk next to that one because he has been beaten down in 3 books already. As he doesn't even possess the other characteristics listed, he does not fit the bill for a Super Villian. His presence felt so overdone. Every time he came into a scene I was annoyed. And he pulls the same tricks he has done since book one. He is actually a terribly written bad guy. I surely hope this is his last book because I can't take anymore of his insignificance.
Then there is our lead heroin, Levy, herself. The author tries to force her into being this low key ,flannel wearing, comic book reading good ol' girl. Yet, it just doesnt fit. Levy constantly makes references to batman, the Marvel universe, and graphic novels in general. But it comes across so fake. Like a person trying to pretend they are into those things. Believe me, I see it a lot. Now that comics are cool, many try to pretend they are fans. That is how Levy comes across to me and I'm not even taking into account her childish banter and inability to take stuff seriously.
The love lives of Levy, Savannah, and Blue are just uninspired. There was no build up to make it stick. No intense draw and no emotional pull. Savannah just saw the Master Vampire and BAM they were an item. On a side note, Lucas is the worst Master Vampire I have ever read about in a novel. He has no sensuality, no sexuality, no powerful presence, and... whatever else you think a Master Vampire should have then he doesn't have that either. However, as readers we are supposed to believe he and Savannah have an unbreakeable bond forged from.... NOTHING. It's basically the same for the other two couples as well. Think about how love was built stine by stobe between Bella and Edward in the the Twilight series... now think about how Mercy and Adam went through hell and high water to realize they loved each other in the Mercy Thompson series. Now, if anything happens to those characters, you would feel the hurt or you as if it was you in the pages. But you don't have any of that here. They meet and they date. That's it.
There was one spark to this book that kept me from rating it a 1 Star and that was THE ISLAND. Now here was the opportunity for an awesome story. Levy and Garret visit a secluded island that is home to the purest forms of Supernatural. They encounter a mix of magical creatures that are masters in trickery. They come across a demi-goddess who doesn't want to let them leave and unintentionally strike a bargain with her. This was a good storyline but didn't get enough page time. I would have preferred a full story around these characters instead of another stale run at Connor. This small portion of the book was a saving grace for me. Curiosity about reading more about them is probably why I'll try out the next book.
My Blog Rating:
2 Stars 🌟🌟- Decent. Has Potential. Possibly a good idea for a story but something could have been better. Sometimes it's because the author put too little or too much into the wrong parts of the story. New authors sometimes fall in this ranking and move up as their series progresses. Doesn't mean I hated it. Just means it was missing something to push it over the hump.
One interesting spark to this book
