Acerca de esta escucha

This book recounts the slugger's life before, during, and after his headline season of 1961, when the taciturn North Dakota native topped Babe Ruth's all-time record by hitting 61 homers. From his youth as a star high-school athlete and American Legion baseball player, Maris went on to big-time sports with the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Athletics, New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Author Rosenfeld argues that Maris' treatment by the press was both shabby and tragic, and that his Midwestern modesty and strength, his need for privacy, and his straightforward bluntness were often wrongly interpreted as arrogance and sullenness - a factor that led many to downplay his claim on the record books.

One of the greatest tragedies in sports is the denial of Maris to the Baseball Hall of Fame and his mistreatment by the baseball writers

Great story

The author provides intimate details of Roger Maris life as he appeared in seven World Series with the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals.

On the way, Maris broke Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs in a season, an honor most Yankee fans thought only deserving of Mickey Mantle.

It was decades before the fans forgave Maris for breaking Babe Ruth's record.

It's almost impossible to listen, the narrators voice sounds like a computerized voice, awful.

Buyers Beware

I cannot even listen to this due to the terrible audio quality. It sounds automated and choppy like it is being read by a text to speech recognition software. STAY AWAY!
