The story is engaging as expected from James Michener. The narration may be the worst ever.

I have NEVER liked an audible book better than reading it, but this changed my mind! If it is possible to make Michener better, this did!! The reader, Larry McKeever, easily made each person recognizable, and the book, which is excellent, came alive!!

We did not want to miss one word. James Michener covered current and historical issues. The effect they had on people and how they were interpreted. I personally absolutely loved the “The Recessional”. Fiction and facts were skillfully combined to bring past times to life.

Recessional” discussed things happening historically and that face us today.

I’ve been a fan of his works for most of my life, did not know this one existed. Was pretty excited to learn about something he wrote about my backyard. Great story, just terrible narration. Would love to see if reproduced, would love to see Netflix pick it up as a series. Highly recommended regardless.

All of James's books are wonderful, and this one is no exception. No one needs to bother about complaining about the voice of the guy who reads the story. it was recorded long ago and he's long since dead as well as the author. You get used to his voice after a few minutes 😊

I approached this book hoping for more knowledge of Florida and retirement living. This book shows that great contentment can be found in multiple family facilities but also great anxiety can rear its ugly head. I was disappointed in the amount of information about Florida’s overall comparison with other retirement locations. While I am reading this book 25 years after it was written, most of the practical aspects of cost and open space have changed dramatically, the spiritual and social aspects of this type of living became the focal points that are in focus. I found that I’m perplexed whether my thoughts about a living will are compatible with Biblical teaching.

My mind is debating the efficacy of a living will.

Michener has written the definitive book of Life. This good old fashioned Story needs to be required reading for everry eighteen year old.
