A story from The Book of Siavon....

In the world of Aryth, a young dragon is born upon a seaside cliff. For years, he struggles to survive in the wild before ending up captured and sold to a circus. All seems lost until the night he meets a strange human girl with eyes the color of rubies.

This is the story of Protos, the dragon that carried the Ruby Child to victory.

This is a coming of age tale. This was a good side story to a already good series. definitely would recommend this one.

Another Good addition to the Ruby child series.

As a prequel to 'The Book of Siavon' novels, 'Protos' gives the reader a look at the events leading up to the first book through the eyes of the main character's dragon. An interesting tale of survival that leaves you hanging, but wanting to dive deeper into the universe. Overall, a good story. The narrator nails it.

A good prequel

The first chapter is a bit boring and lacking anything to latch onto beyond description of the beasts but the middle section from chapters “First Year” to “Captivity” was pretty interesting.

Interesting mid section

I'll be honest: the first chapter of this novella had me worried as it sounded like a biology lecture. But I was delighted when Eppley took that biologist's eye and applied it to the story of a dragon's birth, adolescence, and young adulthood. The main character, Swift, is always an animal, first and foremost, and I could tell that the author has a deft eye for animal behavior. I've never read a fantasy story from the dragon's perspective before, and this novella nailed it.

A lovely little tail (ha!)
