Acerca de esta escucha

Dr. M. Scott Peck has inspired millions by combining the deepest insights of psychiatry with those of religion. In this first of a three volume audio series based on his best-selling book People of the Lie, Dr. Peck once again integrates religious teaching with the science of psychology as he offers hope for healing one of society's most persistent failings -- human evil.

In his characteristic warm and accessible style, Dr. Peck explains that while the notion of evil has been present in religious thought for centuries, the concept has not been fully addressed by the psychiatric community. Dr. Peck links the two to show us how truly evil people are not necessarily criminals but those among us who appear as upstanding members of society. Using individual case studies to present vivid incidents of human evil, Dr. Peck describes how these "People of the Lie" hide behind the facade of normalcy as they continue to plague our lives.

A groundbreaking and compelling audio program that explores the essence of evil, People of the Lie sets us on a path toward understanding and coping with this age-old program.

It was the last 10 minutes that made the book noteworthy. I just wish there was more of that. I will need to read the next installments. Thank you Scott Peck for bringing this “evil” out of the closet, where most people don’t see it for what it is - because it’s essential for everyone to recognize this

I thought the book was good, but too short. I was shocked and disappointed that it was finished. I guess I'll need to get vol. 2.

In "People of the Lie", Volume 1, psychiatrist and author M. Scott Peck delves into the unsettling realms of human nature, exploring the subtle yet pervasive influence of evil in our lives. Narrated by Peck himself, the audiobook feels personal, like an intimate conversation with someone who has seen the darker facets of humanity and is unafraid to confront them. His voice carries an authenticity that makes listeners feel both drawn in and unsettled, as he invites us to examine the complexity of human behaviors that often go unchallenged and unchecked.

Peck’s clinical insights and storytelling merge powerfully, offering real-life examples that resonate deeply. Each case study unfolds like a psychological mystery, revealing how people can hide their true nature behind facades of normalcy, even respectability. His observations on human deception and denial are piercing, bringing us face-to-face with questions about morality, self-awareness, and the courage it takes to confront uncomfortable truths.

What makes "People of the Lie" so compelling is how Peck balances intellect with heart. He’s not simply analyzing pathology; he’s also reflecting on the deep wounds and struggles that shape people’s lives. As a listener, you feel his compassion as much as his clear-eyed determination to expose the ways in which everyday “evil” manifests, often in the smallest acts. Peck’s nuanced perspective challenges us to look not only at others but also inward, to question the lies we tell ourselves and the subtle ways we may enable harm.

Throughout the audiobook, Peck examines themes of responsibility, forgiveness, and redemption, shedding light on the power of self-awareness in healing and change. He tackles the taboo subjects of evil and human cruelty with remarkable clarity, neither dismissing nor sensationalizing them. His reflections encourage a profound look at the human experience, sparking empathy as well as introspection, as he invites us to engage with these tough topics rather than shy away.

This work deserves a 5 out of 5 star rating for its courage, depth, and the essential questions it poses. M. Scott Peck’s fearless exploration of evil as an aspect of the human condition makes "People of the Lie" an essential listen. It’s a thought-provoking, transformative experience that leaves a lasting impact on anyone ready to question and understand the hidden sides of human nature.

I found this to be a very important work, especially in this day of Wokeness. I think Woke thinking is evil.

I’ve been reading this author’s works from the time they were first published. I find now, at a later stage in my life, they are consistently accurate, important works on the subject of human nature. This work, addressing evil, is a “must read” for all who wish clarity regarding the numerous facets of human behavior.

A timeless work

A very important book for everyone. It describes in layman's terms how people become evil. Written by a psychiatrist who was an agnostic and became a Christian because of what he experienced in his practice!

A clear description what evil is!
