Which character – as performed by Susan Fouche – was your favorite?

I thought Ms. Fouche did a nice job with the various characters in the cast. I could only give 3.5-4 stars due to the loud breaths throughout the narration. It was distracting.

I did find Serena a bit irritating. Perhaps that was how she was written. She just seemed to waiver on making some really important decisions (like speaking to Charlie before things happened) or purposely egging John on. I didn't think those scenarios were realistic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I felt the abuse scenes were well done. The thoughts going through the mind of Serena (why she didn't leave earlier in the relationship) were spot on.

Any additional comments?

I didn't like how the police chief just blew off Serena's call for help the first time. It was irritating for a person in law enforcement to be depicted this way.

Mr. Chapin creates a well-developed story in such a short time. I would have liked a longer story to get to really know John, Serena and Charlie.

New Beginnings

A woman slowly realizes that her husband’s beatings are not due solely to alcohol use and decides to leave him to save her life and the life of their unborn child. She moves as far away from him as she possibly can and makes a new life for herself under an assumed name. Just when she is becoming accepted into the tight knit community, and possibly falling in love again against her better judgment, her husband shows up in town.

She is not sure about the man she is falling for. He has shown a willingness to be violent. But her also appears to be a kind person and a godly man. He is struggling with his own dilemma at the moment and this makes him appear to be something that he is not.

This book has no surprises, is a story we have all seen before, and, of course, has a somewhat sappy ending. Despite this, there is a good message here. Trust in the Lord to guide you in all ways and you will find tranquility. Life is not perfect, will never be perfect but we can find peace in living our life according to His will.

Susan Fouche does a fine narration. She paces the story just right to capture the drama and tension created by the story and her male voices were good.

Perseverance Pays Off

I got this book via audiobook boom. I loved this story. It is a story of faith, strength and the ability to make lemonade out of lemons. After living in an abusive situation and escaping then finding the one man that God has for you was remarkable. It makes you think about how when you read the Bible with understanding rather than through someone else's eyes. This story made me think and continue to listen until the end.

This is a very needed subject to be addressed among our young couples and even middle aged couples. We have dealt with this in our own extended family and know first hand how hard it is to get the offended wife to leave. I felt the author did a good job of explaining how there was still love in her heart even for her abusing husband which made it difficult for her to leave. However, I was definitely uncomfortable with the part of the story line that seemed to indicate that it was OK for her to begin dating and have passionate kissing with another man while she was still married. Even though a year had gone by and she was not filing for divorce out of fear, they were still married and the story line seem to indicate that in that case it was OK to date and be passionate again even though the former marriage was still intact.

A Needed Story Line....but

Loved it, great story showing God's love in our lives. The narrator had a very soothing voice.

I was happy to see Serenha get out of that marriage and get on with her life

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The abuse scenes were spot on terrifying and believable. I lived them too. Glad she got away.

This book was well written with well rounded characters.

Serenah, the female lead is running from an abusive husband and decides to make a new

life in Newport, Washington.

The story line held a bit of mystery and romance that kept me engaged until the end.


Susan Fouche did well with the narration.
