Rosie writes romance novels and listens to Taylor Swift on loop. Aiden is a literary fiction writer who doesn't believe in happy endings. They're about to write a book together—what could go wrong?
The Hating Game meets Beach Read in this sexy and hilarious enemies-to-lovers romance from a debut Peruvian-Tennessean voice.
Rosie, an idealistic and passionate Peruvian American, leaves her Tennessee hometown to pursue her dream of making it in New York as a writer. But her plan is derailed when she ends up in class with her archnemesis and ex-crush, Aiden Huntington—an obnoxious, surly, and gorgeous literary fiction writer who doesn’t have much patience for the romance genre or for Rosie.
Rosie and Aiden regularly go to verbal battle in workshop until their professor reaches her breaking point. She allows them to stay in her class on one condition: they must cowrite a novel that blends their genres.
The reluctant writing duo can’t help but put pieces of themselves into their accidentally steamy novel, and their manuscript-in-progress provides an outlet for them to confess their feelings—and explore their attraction toward each other.
When Rosie and Aiden find themselves competing against each other for a potentially career-changing opportunity, the flames of old rivalry reignite, and their once-in-a-lifetime love story is once again at risk of being shelved—unless they can find a way to end the book on their own terms.
“Atmospheric, beautifully conveying the appeal of bustling NYC … Readers will not be able to put down this delightful, witty romance.”—Library Journal

WOW. I really, really enjoyed this one. The two main characters have such good tension and banter in the beginning and all throughout the book. I think that the enemies to lovers plot developed really well. It was a believable progression of the relationship. I did enjoy the way the love story unfolded. The story within a story aspect of the novel was extremely appealing to me. I enjoyed the side characters that were woven throughout as well. I thought that backstories were interwoven well and the way the two characters got to know each other was very clever and made sense for the story. I found myself getting caught up in the story and didn't want to stop reading. I thought this was a great debut novel and look forward to reading more from her in the future.
The narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life and making the two characters voices distinct.

Rosie Maxwell is a romantic Peruvian-American from Tennessee now living and working in New York City. Rosie is a romance writer currently in a graduate program and she’s got the best friends. Rosie and her friends attend a writing workshop for school that’s taught by her favorite professor, the only problem is her nemesis is also enrolled in this class. Aiden Huntington is Rosie’s ex-crush and current thorn in her side. The pair can’t help but throw barbs at each other in class. Aiden thinks his literary fiction is superior to Rosie’s romance and Rosie makes it clear that she finds his lit-fic boring and gratuitously sad. Their distain for one another becomes quite the distraction in class and the professor threatens to remove them both unless they work together on the final project, a novel. Now forced to write together, Aiden and Rosie are encouraged to go on fake dates in order to write a believable story. As they spend more time together, this duo can’t help but writing pieces of themselves into their story and maybe they have been wrong about each other all along.
I loved this book and never wanted it to end. I enjoyed the witty banter, the fun and supportive friend group, and the depth of the main characters. Rosie and Aiden were complex characters and interesting to read. I was very invested in each characters life. I’m incredibly impressed by this debut novel and can’t wait to read what Holt puts out next!
