The #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder—now a hit Netflix series—returns with her first novel for adults: a twisty thriller about a young woman trying to solve her own murder.

“This truly unique premise snowballs into a roller-coaster ride of thrilling suspense and knock-out twists!”—Freida McFadden, author of The Housemaid

In seven days Jet Mason will be dead.

Jet is the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in Woodstock, Vermont. Twenty-seven years old, she’s still waiting for her life to begin. I’ll do it later, she always says. She has time.

Until Halloween night, when Jet is violently attacked by an unseen intruder.

She suffers a catastrophic head injury. The doctor is certain that within a week, the injury will trigger a deadly aneurysm.

Jet has never thought of herself as having enemies. But now she looks at everyone in a new light: her family, her former best friend turned sister-in-law, her ex-boyfriend.

She has at most seven days, and as her condition deteriorates she has only her childhood friend Billy for help. But nevertheless, she’s absolutely determined to finally finish something:

Jet is going to solve her own murder.

While I have read Holly’s previous YA books I had not listened to any on audio and that is clearly a crying shame. This was SUCH a fantastic audio listen. The banter and internal dialogue would not have been the same without the narrators raspy rendition and top notch dramatic flare. The story entirely satire but trying to be serious was a listen I couldn’t stop listening to. A play straight through sorta read that by the end, although I wasn’t necessarily surprised, I had hoped would pull a miracle and everything would end up being okay. But I guess, that’s life right? Sometimes the clouds really are frogs, and sometimes they’re lemons

Part murder mystery, part falling in love, part..? Frogs?

Great story, should have read the book. The narration is terrible. The voice the narrator does for other characters is bad and distracting

Bad narration

The story was good—the narration was not—with this the interpretation I did not like any of the characters, and most of the characters were given a squeaky, broken childish voice that was unbearable.

Fun story

Loved it loved it loved it. It had an interesting premise and I didn't even come close to figuring out the ending. Or the other ending! Lol

Soooo good

Wow, just WOW
SOOO GOOD please get past the voice for Billy it sounded like a 12 year old … and really the only issue I had with the story…. Loved everyone especially Jett and Billy inspite of that dumb voice

Gutted

Holly Jackson is my girl and this book was amazing and emotional but I couldn’t stand the monotone narration who could barely do one character let alone the others. She gave no spark to jet who when reading the book is very witty. Super sad how the narration turned out compared to her other books who do a great job

Awful narration

Ok first of all if you’ve not read this book, by all means do! It’s great! Original storyline, great characters. Truly, great read/listen!!! Go ahead and get it and stop reading now as possible !spoilers! ahead.
Again, great book. Truly. I just personally think this had potential to be a great series of books! This town, this setting, these people, their stories and backstories, and come on!!! A detective who got her start by solving her own murder!!! That’s bada**!! Or rather would’ve been bada**. That alone could’ve been extremely prolific!! And I know, I know..to stay true to the story, etc …and to keep with reality and such, it had to end that way. But couldn’t she have at least remained a time bomb? Her condition not taking the expected course? Happens in the medical community all the time.
That said, you’re a great writer and I’m sure don’t need a series but we the readers, like series!! There are waaayyyy too many examples so I’ll leave it there. I would’ve liked more but oh well, too late now because now I wouldn’t care. It’s just over. I guess I’m saying what I’ve said before, unless you’re writing the next great American classic, maybe go ahead and pander to your genre’s readers.
Just a thought😁

Great read! Buy it! But I do have thoughts…

I liked Jet’s sarcastic sense of humor and the family dynamics. I did not like Billy’s voice.

The story line was very unique.

I was pretty excited about this book being her first "adult" novel and being a bit longer. Overall it's a decent listen. I know they wanted the character to sound hoarse, but this is almost uncomfortable with how scratchy it is so the reader only gets 1 star from me just for the fact that listening to it made MY throat hurt! This is only an "adult" novel in that the characters are not teenagers. In every other aspect it seems less adult than her other books and the characters are less likeable. The teenagers in her other books are more mature and realistic characters than any of those in this book. All the adults here behave like very one dimensional immature characters and you can't even empathize with the main character that much. I really wanted to like it, but it's pretty long for no reason and the story and mystery are just okay, pretty easy to solve early on as it suffers from characters who are too "helpful" and "nice". It's kind of like a hallmark mystery movie level listen. A fine way to kill time, but since her other books are amazing I was a little disappointed. This doesn't feel like a natural story like her other books, kind of forced and tortured. :( Hopefully her next book is better?

Not quite there...
