Acerca de esta escucha

In this classic Victorian novel, Elizabeth Gaskell explores the themes of love and social justice in an industrial age. Set in the north of England, out-of-towner Margaret Hale finds herself simultaneously attracted to mill owner John Thorton, and repulsed by the way he treats his workers. Full of history, romance, and social commentary, North & South will provoke your mind and tug at your heart.

This production is read for you by the accomplished screen, stage, and TV actress Jenny Agutter, most famously known for her role in The Railway Children.

Goodness, the actual novel makes me appreciate how much more fleshed out the story was in the miniseries. Makes me greatly appreciate the writers! Of course, this is a typical Victorian novel, where the woman is ever so grateful of any attention from males. I found myself yelling at my phone, which is ultimately unproductive, but made me feel better. The writers of the miniseries really took actual events of the times, and incorporated them into the story rather seamlessly. So yes, I am evermore astounded at the richness of the ministries, versus the novel that they had to work with.

Makes me appreciate the mini series
