Xiyya Jackson
Acerca de esta escucha
It is a story too terrible to tell, too terrifying to hear, too unbelievable to survive, but too important to conceal. But Xiyya Jackson did, miraculously, survive. As you listen to her story, you will be drawn into the world of domestic violence and learn what happens when love turns to pain and everybody involved pays the price. Some pay the ultimate price. This harrowing story of abuse, kidnapping, and terror that results in a murder charge will keep you riveted with every chapter.
Xiyya Jackson (pronounced Z-yah) is the mother of six children, but states that she has a seventh “bonus” child. She hails from Indianapolis, Indiana. She is a twin in a family of twins and has a set of twin daughters. She hails from a large family of ten sisters and two brothers, one of whom is her fraternal twin. She enjoys singing, shopping, and helping others. She enjoys giving advice to others about her harrowing ordeal to help them escape. She is working to establish a foundation that will help more women escape domestic violence with a focus on helping teens learn the basics of healthy dating.

The day we met in October of 1997, I was working at the District Court in Traverse City, Michigan as a Deputy Clerk. I loved my job. It was extremely satisfying and interesting with constant interaction with all walks of life, including people on either end of the judicial spectrum and many in between. Suddenly, there he was. Tall, handsome, and looking so impressive and important in his Michigan State Police uniform with his hat, gun belt, and badge. He was extremely friendly and upbeat, smiling profusely. Best of all, he, too, was unattached. What could go wrong?

Being “shook” is more than a rap lyric for Charlamagne; it’s his mission to overcome. While it may seem like he is ahead of the game and should have nothing to worry about, he is still plagued by anxieties - fear of being weak; fear of being a bad dad; fear of being a worse husband; and, ultimately, fear of failure. Shook One chronicles his journey to beat back those fears and empowers you to no longer be held back from your potential.

Each patient presents a mystery, one that will only be unpacked over years.

We call it domestic violence. We call it private violence. Sometimes we call it intimate terrorism. But whatever we call it, we generally do not believe it has anything at all to do with us, despite the World Health Organization deeming it a 'global epidemic'. In No Visible Bruises, journalist Rachel Louise Snyder gives context for what we don't know we're seeing. She frames this urgent and immersive account of the scale of domestic violence in our country around key stories that explode the common myths....

Historia
John Douglas once again takes us fascinatingly behind the scenes, focusing his expertise on predatory crimes, primarily against women. With a deep sense of compassion for the victims and an uncanny understanding of the perpetrators, Douglas looks at the obsessions that lead to rape, stalking, and sexual murder through such cases as Ronnie Shelton, the serial rapist who terrorized Cleveland; and New York's notorious "Preppie Murder". But Douglas also looks at obsession on the other side of the moral spectrum: his own career-long obsession with hunting these predators.

With The Respondent: Exposing the Cartel of Family Law, Hollywood veteran Greg Ellis delivers a gripping, unvarnished first-person account of family breakdown and the social, political, and legal forces that are fueling this national health emergency. It further exposes and condemns a gender bias that presumes that fathers are less effective caregivers. Part memoir, part meditation, and part manifesto, it’s a timely and heartrending portrait of perhaps the most misunderstood aspect of the American legal system.

Historia
Don't Let Your Kids Kill You is a landmark work that dares to focus on the plight of the confused, distressed parent and not the erring child. It sets aside any preconceived ideas that parents are to blame for what is essentially a full-blown global crisis. Drawing on interviews with parents who have survived the heartbreak of kids on drugs, combined with his own experience, Charles Rubin provides practical advice on how parents can help themselves and their families by first attending to their own needs.
