When Philip Le Brocq found a faded portrait of a pilot in a box of family mementos, it set off a quest spanning nearly four decades to find out who the young man was and what became of him.
The result is the fascinating story of Peter Le Brocq, a former Victoria College schoolboy who was evacuated to England just before German forces occupied Jersey on 1 July 1940. Peter was determined to become a pilot and lied about his age so he could join the RAF. Signing up when he was 15, his call- up papers dropped through the letterbox the day after his 16th birthday. Nobody ever questioned his true age.
His training and subsequent missions took him to all parts of the world, including Egypt, Malta and Greece. Being part of the action on D-Day and hunting German shipping convoys between the coast of France and his beloved Channel Islands are all part of Peter’s gripping story
