After a young couple uses the board in a graveyard, a tornado appears out of nowhere, unearthing all the dead in the small town and bringing them back to life. The residents of Lordsland have no idea the terrors that are about to be unleashed upon them.
This zombie novel was a TRIP. There's plenty of gore and disturbing moments, plenty of characters you want to see fail, and a lot of stressful moments. There were so many characters that it was a little hard for me to keep track who was who (that's definitely a me thing - exhausted mom brain has a rough time with this sometimes).
The narrator did an excellent job!
Ouija boards are ALWAYS a bad idea

Characters Feel Real

RJ Roles put so much “life” into the characters of this book, that despite whether or not I liked them, I was hooked (hook-er?) to find out what would happen to them. RJ crafted gore, violence, personalities and humor just perfectly. This is hands down one of the best “zombie” books I’ve read. It was an absolute blast to read (listen) to this book and I’ll totally be re-listening to it again.
Also- Spencer Dillehay is an absolute gem. He is an automatic listen, every time. He is able to bring the characters to fruition and has the ability to slightly (and sometimes drastically) give them each a different voice and personality, without sounding absolutely ridiculous. He’s one of the top narrators out there!
A tornado. A Zealot. A trollop. Rednecks. Children. And the dead.

This starts out like a good ole boy, redneck misadventure but man, I really love these characters. By the end these people become something special and I found a bit of myself in just about every one of them. The town felt reminiscent of Castle Rock or Elm Haven from Dan Simmons’ Summer of Night, a place where being a small town meant something and people look after each other no matter what.
Don’t go thinking that this is all serious now, because it not. It is funny and wild and it’s about a crazy storm that summoned the dead to tear the living apart. Not just human dead either, but pets and wild animals as well. What I found interesting was that the living knew some of the dead. They were friends and relatives that had been buried and the storm brought back.
All in all Necronado took me by surprise with how it was able to combine off the wall scenarios with heartfelt touching moments.
What a whirlwind!!
