As both a citizen of the Potawatomi Nation and a Christian, Kaitlin Curtice offers a unique perspective on these topics. Read this book. it is simple to understand. The language cannot be misinterpreted to mean anything other than the reality the author brings to life. There is moving and powerful imagery. There are also tough questions. would 100% recommend.

Inspiring and Hopeful

Curtice is a gifted writer with important things to say. In this book, she tackles the hard stuff: white supremacy, colonization, patriarchy. This one voice of the indigenous peoples gave me a greater insight into the indigenous experience in America and made me aware of so many injustices that prevailed. This book is a journey worth taking with this brilliant writer. I used the audio to follow along with the book and made it much more meaningful when read by the author. Highly recommend.

As a white and Ojibwe woman, I expected more of the tanglement of being both Christian and Native. I did not expect lies about Sandman and even some about Trump. Disappointed but still did enjoy most of the book.

Started out great

I really liked this book, however, if you are a BIPOC who has been traumatized by evangelical Christianity you will be triggered. It was hard for me to listen to this because I have experienced a lot of what she talks about. I had to take breaks to cry. I got really angry and had to stop reading at other times. But it’s really good and necessary to hear whether you’re BIPOC or not especially right now in 2020. However some people may not be ready to confront all the things this book so eloquently calls out.
