A Warhammer 40,000 Drukhari Audiobook

Lelith Hesperax is the Queen of Knives – the greatest of Commorragh's wyches, and the deadliest gladiator in the galaxy. Now she returns to the Dark City, to slice her way through tangled webs of deception...

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Follow the legendary grand succubus as she finds herself dragged back to Commorragh and enveloped once more within the twisted plots of Asdrubael Vect.

THE STORY

In the darkest corners of the webway lies the city of Commorragh. Home to the sadistic drukhari, millions are butchered upon its arenas’ sands to slake their terrible thirst for blood. The greatest of these butchers is Lelith Hesperax – the Queen of Knives, and the deadliest gladiator in the galaxy.

Lelith abandoned the Dark City to walk alongside the nomadic death cultists of Ynnead, and in her absence from Commorragh, pretenders to her blood-soaked crown have arisen.

When a blade strikes at Lelith from the shadows, she is pulled back to Commorragh, and into the murderous games of the Living Muse himself – Asdrubael Vect. As his schemes coil around her, the Queen of Knives finds herself ensnared once more in Vect’s terrible web, and this time, mere blades may not be enough to cut her free.

Most thrilling

This novel does wonderful work exploring the morality and the personal lives of the dark eldar in an exciting story of backstabbing starring the one blunt instrument, in a way, of the culture. Please commission more novels about the non-human factions. These are the books I immediately buy, and tend to enjoy the most.

The Best Warhammer Novel in Some Time

I've been a dark eldar fan for a long time, and have always quite liked lelith as a character. A direct, brutal sword strike to the cloak and daggers most of commoragh runs on. That said, i was kind of dissapointed in this book for a few reasons, despite how much i overall enjoyed it. I felt that while it captured her more direct and brutal means it didn't have very much of substance that i haven't seen elsewhere as a fan of the drukhari, commoragh and alot of other aspects. She seems to also waver here and there in motivation, but those are my two complaints. The action, descriptions and narration are all supremely done and flow well together, and the book keeps up a good pace and doesn't overstay it's welcome. To those looking for a decent story on lelith hesperax and some of the conniving and various factions of the eldar, this is a fun book well done in most aspects. But for those wanting a more deep dive into the dark eldar themselves it's a tad shallow.

The highlight for sure is the well done action scenes and fights. They are quick, brutal and to the point. The narrator is good if a tad too soft spoken and not as suited for 40k as she could be.

A Decent look at Lelith

This title avoids many of the typical "bolter porn" pitfalls that hold back so many 40k works. A thematic, suspenseful tale that all Drukhari and Ynnari fans should thoroughly enjoy.

Excellent non-standard 40k fare

While the story stalled a bit in the middle, it did an excellent job providing some insight into the inner workings of the Drukhari and finished in a rather spectacular manner. Mike Brooks did a great job capturing the nature of the Dark Eldar. Their callousness to others, raging emotions, and ultimately their pride and arrogance. The presence of Vect always makes for a good read, though the brief appearances of the Harlequins were a nice splash as well. Overall a solid story.

Solid and Insightful

I am a big time fan of the Aeldari in 40k, and we have long been bereft of recent good crafted stories centered around any of the elven sub factions. I'm very happy they have given the story over to Mike Brooks, who has been on a hot streak with his 40k books. And he certainly delivers another positive experience here.

Lelith is a Grade A boss ass bitch. Cruel, wrathful and to the point. It certainly makes for a fun read when it comes to the action. Her motivations are sometimes a bit hazy, about what she actually believes in. But again trying to add nuance to a straightforward character in a race as cruel as the Dark Eldar is a big ask. So I can let that slide as a only small disappointment.

The action and dialogue is well written and fun. the snippets of lore about the attitudes of the Dark Eldar and other Eldar factions is fascinating for any hardcore lore hound. And as always, they pick a good choice in narrator. She is certainly fabulous reading from Hesperax's perspective, if a bit one note on trying for masculine characters. It's still damn good.

A straight forward but fun blood bath

Felt a bit high-school drama. I mean OK dark elves are petty so that's fine I guess.
