Acerca de esta escucha

Fantasy fans, rejoice! Seven years after writer and editor Robert Silverberg made publishing history with Legends, the acclaimed anthology of original short novels by some of the greatest writers in fantasy fiction, the long-awaited second volume is here.

Each of the best-selling writers represented in these selections from Legends II returns to the fantasy universe he or she made famous throughout the world. Whether set before or after events already recounted elsewhere, whether featuring beloved characters or compelling new creations, these masterful short novels are both mesmerizing stand-alones – perfect introductions to the work of their authors – and indispensable additions to the epics on which they are based.

Robert Silverberg spins an enthralling tale of Majipoor's early history – and remote future – as seen through the eyes of a dilettantish poet who discovers an unexpected destiny in "The Book of Changes".

Neil Gaiman gives us a glimpse into what befalls the man called Shadow after the events of his Hugo Award-winning novel American Gods in "The Monarch of Glen".

Orson Scott Card tells a tale of Alvin Maker and the mighty Mississippi, featuring a couple of ne'er-do-wells named Jim Bowie and Abe Lincoln, in "The Yazoo Queen".

I listened to this book for the Neil Gaiman story and it turns out that was the only good one. perhaps it was because I was not familiar with the other two stories background but I found them rather boring.

Listened for Gaiman

This anthology was great, I loved the Gaiman story, really liked Orson Scott Card's, enjoyed the other one.

I love short stories!

The first story was so repetitive and boring and had such a blah ending. Ugh. 2 stars. The second story was intriguing, well narrated, just what I wanted from Neil Gaiman, a little extra American Gods in my life - 5 stars. The third story was a hopeful story, quality narration - 4 stars.

only got it because I loved American Gods

The first story just wasn’t for me but I really liked the other stories. I really liked American Gods so it was great to read about Shadow again and Card’s story was great too.

Fantastic stories with the exception of the first

My review is for The Monarch of the Glen only. To anybody who bought this volume for the same reason, the time-stamp to get to it is 3h 42m left in the book!

For whatever reason, this collection has no chapter markers. After trudging through part of the first story, I decided to skip ahead to Neil Gaiman’s novella. Maybe the other two authors’ stories would be better if I’d ever read their other books… but I’m not sure. I didn’t find either of the others interesting enough to keep on with.

The narrator of Neil Gaiman’s novella was excellent! He reminds me of the narrator in the full-cast edition of American Gods. It was odd at first, because I was used to Shadow’s voice being deeper, but I enjoyed the narration nonetheless!

Buy this book if you want to hear more of Shadow’s story… and, if you enjoy the other authors, consider that a bonus!

I bought this for Monarch of the Glen, and enjoyed it! The other stories… not so much.

This book is a bunch of short stories and the chapters seem to mean nothing. The stories are good just annoying on the chapter settings

Why isn’t the chapters where the story ends or begin?

Of the 3 stories in this book 2 were totally forgettable. The third was a better listen.

2 out of 3 of these stories
