As I often due during this period of my life I consume my books in a hybrid fashion, both with reading the written and word and listening to them. Having listened to almost half of this whole series, it's made me feel even closer to Ray and Moth- especially since I listened to their tidbit of conversation at the very end. They seem like honest, good humans and that's hard to fake in a conversation. As far as I know, they aren't trained actors. My profession and lived experience has given me the wisdom to know that you just can't fake that kind of authenticity. Yes, I know there are exceptions, but I believe in my soul that this is not one of them.
Ray, thank you for sharing the beautiful connection you both have with nature and with each other. I am forever changed by you both being willing to give these stories to us and by the vulnerability it took to share them.

This book will not only inspire you to start walking, it will make you consider the importance of taking care of the land for the insects and wildlife that call it home.

To pick oneself up in the face of disaster and find a way to bend one’s world into something one can handle is a worthy skill and done in such an unassuming manner.

I urge anyone thinking of reading Raynor Winn’s books to check out the ongoing dispute (as of July 14, 2025) over the facts of her husband’s illness and the history of losing their house. The allegations and rebuttals are published in The Observer and on Winn’s website. You decide.

It appears to me that Winn may have strayed to the wrong side of the line between artistic license and misleading. This is a shame, since I think they could have still been worthwhile publications, even if Winn had been more complete and transparent. Nevertheless, in their current form, I find them difficult to listen to now.
