When Peter Rutherford, a young man with nothing to live for, is almost killed in the crossfire of a magical duel, he awakes in the bowels of an ancient Guild of Magicians, whose charge is to defend the border between our world and another, protecting the rest of the world from a war which has been raging for over 20,000 years.
Later, when he is invited to join them, is he supposed to be content with simply being a member of the team: a grunt, with a view to simply surviving and helping his peers to survive for one more generation?
This, the first episode of his journey to magical mastery, involves learning about a distant past, making friends with an ancient warrior, and doing battle with a vicious god in the corrupt world of Werosain.
