As a historical novel you will learn about the creation of the Roman Empire, how that affected the appointment of Pilate to Judea, the inner workings of the Jewish councils and Roman government, and the reason Pilate tried to free Jesus.

I think the author balanced the need to be true to historical details with the goal of telling an interesting story very well. I really enjoyed it.

As a lifetime student of the Bible and lover of history, I found this a great read. There is an excellent weaving of the history of Ancient Rome, the Biblical story of Passion Week and the story of Pontius Pilate. I’ve known of Pilate all my life but now I feel like I actually know him.

Intriguing story. Excellent historical research.
