Acerca de esta escucha

Jacob Jennings was born during a time that was as turbulent as any in American history.

Mexico claimed Texas, but the American settlers who'd recently flooded in were more independent, and when the dictator Santa Anna set aside the Constitution of 1824, he launched a series of changes he had not foreseen.

From revolution to Republic, from fighting Mexican soldiers to Comanche warriors, Jacob Jennings was there.

With his partner Jean-Louis Lafitte and their new wives and children, Jake worked when he could, fought when necessary, and in the process began a career that would make him one of the most well-known men on the Texas frontier!

This was a sad story of making due, going without, and major deprivation to survive. and I empathized with those people. Much loss. Jake had integrity and principles that I admired. I found Jake's wife Priscilla obnoxious and over stepped her boundaries too often. She acted like she was the boss of the family not Jake. Grr.. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Not your typical western, more of a faux biography of Jacob Jennings during the turbulent 1830s in Texas. Or should I say, the Republic of Mexico before there was the Republic of Texas. The story chronicles Jacob’s life from a young man working on the boats on the Sabine River in Louisanna to settling in Gonzales Texas with his partner Jean-Louis Lafitte. The tale is captivating and filled with splashes of history throughout. The massacres at Goliad and the Alamo were noted as were many references to President/General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Even the attempted capture of the cannon at Gonzales by Mexican Dragoons was cited. Jacob’s personal life, wife, and newborn son were recounted as well. It is a wonderful story, full of excitement and color of the Old West. Reminded me a little of a Louis L'Amour novel. The narrator, Tom Lennon was spot on and brought the tale to life. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Rich and colorful!
