Acerca de esta escucha

A fake engagement and plenty of charm keep listeners entranced in this delightful Regency romance, which the USA Today best-selling author Julia Quinn hails as "terrific".

"I have come to ask you to kill me, my lord."

Miss Abigail Abbott desperately needs to disappear - permanently - and the only person she trusts to help her do that is Lord Stephen Wentworth, heir to the Duke of Walden. Stephen is brilliant, charming, and - when he needs to be - absolutely ruthless. So ruthless that he proposes marriage instead of "murder" to keep Abigail safe.

Stephen was smitten the instant his sister introduced him to Abigail, a woman with the dignity and determination of a duchess and the courage of a lioness. When she accepts his courtship of convenience, he also discovers she kisses like his most intimate wish come true. For Abigail, their arrangement is a sham to escape her dangerous enemies. For Stephen, it's his one chance to share a lifetime with the lady of his dreams - if only he can convince her his love is real.

Grace Burrows stories are always sweet and her heroines strong women who are likable. And who would not wish for a lover like Steven who could arouse with words of love.

Loved Steven and Abigal

Loved the story. Grace Burrowes is a genesis when it comes to Loved the story. Grace Burrowes is a genesis when it comes to writing and her stories. Stephen has been an angry at his brother for so long even though he loved him dearly. Angry that they were left alone with Jack while Quinn worked. Stephen had kept his feelings to himself until he met a certain inquiry agent Abigail Abbott.
Abigail has come to Stephen for help, she needs to disappear and she asks him to kill her and not in reality. Stephen suggests a different way to keep her safe and that is an engagement between them. As they work together to get evidence as to why someone is trying to hurt her they grow so much closer. Stephen reveals to her how he was younger, angry at the world and he explored his sexuality with women and even men. Abigail was understanding. I loved the way Grace exposed some of Stephen and how he felt especially him killing Jack. A wonderful story and series. This is a series I will read over and over again. writing and her stories.

Finally his happiness

This wasn't the strongest story in the series in my opinion. I loved brother Stephen in all the other books, and was really looking forward to his tale. I enjoyed where it deepened our understanding of the character. I was a little disappointed that nothing was offered as a solution to his physical pain - I'd hoped they'd discover acupuncture or deep massage to help ease his suffering. Also he makes such a big deal about not wanting to be the duke and not wanting to have children for years then blink, he's fine with it. I think my overall lackluster response to this book was that once again it takes two fiery tigers and, for no apparent reason, turns them into domesticated kittens. I liked both characters better in earlier books when they had more strum and drang. Once they got together it was underwhelming. Not bad by any means, just not terrific.

Liked most of it

While I really enjoy all of Ms. Burrowes work, this was not my favorite. The hero was far less heroic than the others in this series.

Not My Favorite

I ended up dropping off for a while and coming back half a year later to finish this book. It was a quaint experience and not one i regretted. I think the narrative really hit its stride the closer it got to the end.
I like the sequence of events, it flows fairly naturally and realistically. The characterization of most characters was pretty solid for the most part. The multiple povs were with purpose and i appreciated the representation of the various couples.
The story does have some glaringly weak points though. The “villain” has no characterization other than being an awful person. Both feel like a caricatures. There are quite a few aspects and extra details, typically character related, that make the story feel cluttered in certain places to me. They detract from the substance of the story. I think the effort was to further characterization but these added details, such as the heroine being a quaker, never made sense to me or hit home. Another weak point is the dialogue. Another thing that detracted for me was the moments in the story where the heroine would need to assert her independence and capability. This would have been perfectly fine if it hadn’t of been pointed out so obviously. Its not too bad for the most part, but some scenes between the male lead and the heroine are super cringe to listen to.
It wasn’t a bad experience and i think the author did a pretty good job for the most part. I may look her up again when i am in the mood for a fluffy story.

Equal parts good and equal parts weak

Enjoyed the characters and dialogue in this entertaining book. Perhaps a little too descriptive with bedroom scenes but sharing their emotional connection made me smile. The parenting section references was somewhat complicated. Always enjoy this author’s stories.

Love, honor. And fun

This was an awesome story. Grace Burrowes out-did herself. Throughout this series, Stephen was my favorite. Yes, he was a pain in everyone's backside, but he was interesting, complicated and complex. In this book, it's obvious he's finally grown up to become his own man. His "duchess" is the perfect foil and is as intelligent and complicated as Stephen. The end of this story is the perfect ending....and oh so creative. Thanks to Grace and James Langton for a great product.
