Hip Hop & Hope is part memoir, part history, part travelogue, and completely engaging. Its portrait of Phnom Penh is complicated and indelible. Its story of work in an NGO is inspirational. At this hip hop youth centre, Romi evolves from a frightened burrung to a respected manager who knows the words, the tunes, and the moves.
This is the story of trust and friendship, faith, and belief in oneself even when the world is against you. NGO's founder KK, Romi, and their kids forge unbreakable bonds and eventually breakdance their way onto the TEDx stage and to sold-out performances in Australia.

hope and redemption
The author is an empath who pours her heart out in her work and on these pages. The narrative is framed by the events of the Khmer Rouge, the subsequent U.S deportation policy, and the wealth disparity between the Western world and Southeast Asia. The book is about the author's experiences. However, she spends most of her efforts illuminating the lives of those whom she spent so much of her time working with. The details of the main character's life are not fully revealed until the end, letting the reader anticipate the most dramatic point in the narrative. It's a story of hardship, dedication, empathy, injustice, and redemption. I recommend the audio book which is read by the author. The emotion comes through in her voice making for some very powerful moments.

Riveting story of full of inspiration and hope!
This book was a fantastic story of hope and resilience. Romi’s work in Phnom Penh with the children at Tiny Toone’s is truly inspiring. I found myself cheering along with the wins and heartbroken for the losses throughout this book. You can feel the love Romi has for this organization and the children and staff in every word of this book. I found it even more special to listen to Romi herself tell the story. I highly recommend taking the leap into this book, as not only is it a great story but it is also informative and will challenge your thinking and view of the world.
