Explore captivating Hindu myths of Hindu gods and goddesses
The stories in Hindu myth stem from traditions within Hinduism, drawing on stories from ancient texts, like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Keep in mind that because different versions of Hinduism inspire different people, many different versions of the stories float through the jungle and over the stones of temples and traditions. The stories in this volume are my version, though I’ve stuck as closely to the original myths and legends as imagination allows. At the end of this audiobook, you’ll find a short bibliography for further research.
Within this book, you'll find the following Hindu myths covered:
- Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and the Beginning of the World
- The Birth of Lord Shiva
- Saraswati & Brahma’s Fifth Head
- Shiva Tests Parvati
- Shiva Snares a Whale
- Ganesha Loses His Head
- Ganesha Spills a River
- Kubera’s Pride
- Ganesha Injures a Goddess
- Ganesha Wins a Race
- Shiva Skips Success
- Ravana’s Ten Heads
- The Birth of Rama
- Urmila’s Slumber
- Deer of Deception
- Hanuman’s Torch
- Suvannamachha Steals a Bridge
- Hanuman Moves a Mountain
- The Final Battle

Know anything about the Hindu gods? Me either, until I read this book. An interesting and entertaining look at another set of gods who have been around almost forever, but most of us know little to nothing about them

And lest you cry prejudice against Americans, I'm saying this AS an American, haha.
I'm not Hindu, but I know enough (due to having Indian coworkers) to know that this narrator did not look up the correct pronunciations for MANY of the names.
I'm just so baffled by this — both by the unprofessionalism of not looking up these pronunciations, and the odd decision to choose a Western American narrator in the first place.
Would it have been so hard to find an Indian narrator?? Even a second generation Indian who wouldn't have a strong Indian accent but would still generally know how to pronounce the names??
It's not like this is an ancient, lost mythology... this is from a religion that a billion people still follow... and you didn't bother to get the names right?
I'm ranting but I'm just so annoyed by the lack of effort here.
The retelling of the stories themselves was fine though. But the narration really threw me off.
Horrible pronunciations
