Acerca de esta escucha

Harry Potter lives in a world that is both magical and historical. Hogwarts pupils ride an old-fashioned steam train to school, notes are taken on parchment with quill pens, and Muggle legends come to life in the form of werewolves, witches, and magical spells. This book is the first to explore the real history in which Harry's world is rooted.

Did you know that bezoars and mandrakes were fashionable luxury items for centuries? Find out how Europeans first developed the potions, spells, and charms taught at Hogwarts, from Avada Kedavra to love charms. Learn how the European prosecution of witches led to the Statute of Secrecy, meet the real Nicholas Flamel, see how the Malfoys stack up against Muggle English aristocrats, and compare the history of the wizarding world to real-life history.

I liked the Muggle history included with the Magical history. I was glad to see that Mary Wollstonecraft was mentioned her daughter Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein. 👍👍❤️

Well researched?

As another reviewer said - the breathing is unbearable. It's every five words in some areas, like clockwork, as though the reader is trying to push words out as quickly as possible and is becoming winded. Hard to get into the narrative, though it seems pretty good?

The people who would most benefit from this book are the ones least likely to read it: high school students. Some chapters attempted to be really creative, but if you didn't already have a euro-history familiarity, vigilance is required to sift real euro-history from the history as it might have been if Potterverse wasn't fiction.

I did find it annoying that this version of "Hogwarts, a Real History" focusing on the European context, there is constant reference to the American title "HP and the Sorcerer's Stone." Why not "...the Philosopher's Stone"? What does this title change tell us about historical context, particularly what Americans don't know?

maybe not a bezoar, but surely Lapis lazuli

After every sentence there is a little “gasp” that you can’t un-hear once you notice it.

The essays had some interesting theories, but I have read the HP books many times, and they got a lot wrong about events that happen in the books.
