The Dragon Protector asking Mackenzie for a favor—maybe the sky truly has fallen . . .

Mackenzie works for Catch and Release, a bounty-hunting guild, and she loves her job.

She goes after the usual suspects: Rogue vampires, feral shifters, and crazed mages. Nightmare stuff.

The last thing she ever imagined was Lucan, an infuriating and high-ranking dragon shifter, hiring her to find a child kidnapped from his Tribe.

Even though her magical talents lean more towards bodyguarding and hunting dangerous beings, condemning a kid to death isn't who she is.

But as Mackenzie gets deeper into her hunt, she uncovers deadly secrets surrounding the child, the kidnapper, and Lucan himself . . .

One thing's for sure; when the going gets tough, Mackenzie gets dangerous!

The book is great, I had already read the book perviously and was looking forward to the audible version. Overall the performance was good, with solid voices. My one wish was that there was more variation in the narration. It was a little monotone. Enough that I’m going to pass on the next books in the series.

Great book - pretty good narration

Great story, good characters, well done world building with easy to follow rules and setup. Performance really brought this book to life and I cannot wait until the next one comes out.

Amazing

As much as I’ve enjoyed this narrator in other books, her robo-granny voice for Mackenzie made it difficult to engage with the MC or the story. The writing in the first half didn’t help, consisting of much telling and little showing, plus the same scene playing out where a group of villains surrounds Mackenzie, posturing, leering, and monologuing before *poof* she wins.

I almost didn’t make it past the midpoint. Good thing I did, however, as the second half brought better character development and a great collection of found family and magical talents. It remained heavy with info dumps and recaps, and light on painting pictures (except for the weird focus on everyone’s glowing eye colors), but it gave enough of an urban fantasy story to have me interested in book 2.

This is a YA, LGBTQ positive series with unique magics, a slow burn romance, and a vibe that reminds me of Kate Daniels-lite meets Guild Codex.

Like the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, this is a world newly reawakened to magic, with shifters who can go feral/lupe, vampire politics, lots of characters to track, and the ubiquitous snarky FMC + broody alpha MMC archetype.

Like the Guild Codex series by Annette Marie, there’s a bounty hunting guild (Hammer and Crow vs Catch and Release) that’s as much a family as a workplace.

⛔️ Book 2 ends in a huge, Empire Strikes Back cliffhanger. Book 3 divides into two POVs and spends a lot of time with imprisonment, torture, and forced sex. It’s indirectly written, but those with active imaginations should be prepared. Despite the warnings, I liked book 3 best of the 1-3 arc.

Great concepts, okay execution, off narration

I really enjoyed this, and it kept me engaged. My biggest complaint was too many dramatic scenes where she decided it was the end of her life. Of course it wasn’t or that would’ve been the end the book.. And too many times that she struggled through coming back to consciousness. I got a sense of repetitiveness. Ms. Eyre’s performance was very good.

I had previously read this book & knew the story line was good. I got the audible version due to having to drive for a long trip and was disappointed that the voice sounded like an old lady instead of a twenty/thirty something year old (main character’s age).

Good & unique story line.

her voice is very annoying and whiny, it make it difficult to enjoy the book. I want to listen to the rest of the series but not sure if I'll be able to get through them if the reader is the same.

don't like the narrators voice

I heard that the storyline was good but I couldn't get past the voice. It's fake and monotonous. The story might be good but the voice didn't allow me to absorb it. I got to chapter 26 and called it quits.

I really tried.
