It is very rare for a horse, either wild or domestic, to die of old age. The wild horse slows down and succumbs to predators. The ones we feed, use, and enjoy may encounter problems that dictate their euthanasia. Some may grow old in our care, but eventually, given their nature, will have to be put down.

This short book touched my heart in ways that will take a long time to process. I found this book at a time when I need it. I am having my two old horses (29 and 30) euthanized in five days. It is the hardest decision I ever made. There is always that thought, well what if this happens or that happens? Dr. Jefferson’s experiences erased the “what if” and made me realize “it is time”. Every pet owner can learn something from this book. Heartfelt and warm. Well done.
