Will Gawain’s love guide him through these trials, or will he succumb to the forces which threaten his honour?

This abridged version of the epic poem is in modern English and references two early accounts, Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae and C.M. Lewis’s scholarly and entertaining adaptation. Whereas the original poem is just over 2,500 lines, this abridged version runs to 1,114 lines, giving a clear narrative that focuses on the character of Gawain and the events surrounding him.
