Finding material for your French immersion can be a nightmare, but not anymore!
French students regularly have to go through the toughest experiences to find proper material that isn’t too tough for them - as teachers; we know this.
This is why we’ve created French Short Stories for Beginners to ensure that young and old students at the beginner level can have yet another chance to immerse themselves into fun and interactive stories designer for you, the student.
Twenty easy-to-listen, entertaining, and interesting stories await inside, along with the best tools to help you practice once you’re done reading each tale. Our audiobook will ensure you not only can listen to something that will expand your knowledge on French but that you will understand and be able to pick it apart piece by piece in your quest for learning.
How French Short Stories for Beginners works:
- Each story is designed to keep you engaged an interested as well as using vocabulary that you will actually use.
- The summaries follow a synopsis in French and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about.
- At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance!
- Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in French, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any - we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!
Do you think you can handle it? If the answer is yes, then you’re definitely on your way to becoming a French speaker, and we’ll certainly make that dream come true!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. While this is so, my review is based solely on my opinion and is in no way biased.
Excellent practice tool.

Great for Learners

To that end, you’ll need to develop a study schedule. There are suggestions at the beginning of the book of how to do exactly that. Take the time to read the PDF text alone; read and listen to the audio together; listen alone; adjust playback to different speeds if needed (and if your audio player can do that). If you follow the steps, you will learn. Guaranteed.
So that stated, what makes this learning tool special? The stories themselves show many slices of life from small children through retirees. They are short enough to review more than once. They are also quite suited to the beginner/advanced beginner. While listening to some of them, I was able to understand some of the texts on audio alone. I’ve been flirting with French a long time, but I wouldn’t call myself a true intermediate yet.
As for the narrator’s performance, she is better in this one at delivering different character voices and inflections to the narrative passages. They feel like quite interesting stories now.
I recommend this to beginner students learning French who are looking for an affordable and easy to use tool. Lower intermediate learners could also use this with ease. It is an audio, but you’ll get the best value by using the audio track that is available in your Audible library.

Great set of stories for learning

I listen to these over and over, I practice learning and pronunciation and I do my best to pick out the words I have learned from the stories. My French is not advanced enough that I understand the stories, but this gives me something to strive for. I really enjoy them.
That being said, there are errors here and there that can be distracting. For example - baguettes aux cereales they say that means French baguette made of cereal. WHAT?!? I literally spent 10 minutes trying to figure this out online and the best I can come up with is that in French cereal can mean cereal as we know it in America or grains. So I'm thinking it's a baguette made with a certain grain.
This is probably picky, but in French they have different ways to say "a", un or une. In the book they use a French word carte, and then say the definition is "a map." But that's not what they said in French, they just said "map." This was an error that I caught, but it makes me wonder if there are other errors I would learn, saying things the wrong way.
In Volume 2 they changed from having a French woman read everything - French and English, to having an American man say everything in English. However, it became apparent to me that he is just reading and has no input (like when he says a French baguette made of cereal). I liked it better when it was her reading everything. I felt it had better flow.
Great to help my French, but it's not perfect.
