 Yorick is a fictional character in the tragedy of Hamlet. He is spoken of when his skull is found by one of the gravediggers preparing Ophelia's funeral. Holding Hamlet's hand, he recalls his childhood memories of the sparkling court entertainer, who carried him on his back and contemplates his transience.
This impermanence is particularly evident in the third cycle of the volume, entitled The Time of Love, but it runs through the whole volume. "In all love you are alone,/and even if you had another,/to the deepening chasm between you,/only your imagination strains,/a glass bridge". Another pearl of the Love cycle is the poet's unusual self-disclosure: "Now we are beyond the sea of opulence,/but the last great pain from here,/from here so many more losses,/I can't think of words but my hand/remembers your waist,/" (Under another sky).
