Would you like to be a better leader and have people better understand what you say? When asked about the biggest problem in their organizations, most people say it’s “poor communication.” For example, while leaders typically devote 70 percent of their time to communicating, what people understand drops with each organizational level through which it filters. And what eventually trickles through five levels may be only 20 percent of an original message.
“The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing” isn’t just a saying! Just as perplexing is that technology delivers information faster than ever, but people don’t necessarily understand each other better. It’s a mistake to rely on technology alone to fix communication muddles because interrupting a message involves people. This competency-based workbook gives you what you need to know to build your skills. It’s a hands-on practical guide that examines how interpersonal communication is key to your success as a supervisory leader.
You’ll learn that: Perception matters. The type of communication can affect the outcome. Challenges inherent in professional communication are obstacles in themselves. The audiobook also provides exercises that guide you in applying what you learn to your work. With the knowledge and tools, you can make a difference in your team, and thus in your organization and career.
After completing the audiobook, you’ll know how to: Describe the interpersonal communication process and its key components. Explain verbal and nonverbal communication and the relative impact of each. Understand barriers to communication and ways to moderate potential problems. Describe effective listening and questioning techniques. Identify and manage common communication challenges. The audiobook covers 10 Key Concepts with application resources.

Listen and Listen Again and Hone your Active Listening!
It’s great to hear from Dr. Wesley Donahue with such a distinguished record and a vast range of certifications. My key take away from the workbook was pausing is required for effective communication in the workplace. There are many elements to consider regarding your body language, confidence, tone, audience and active listening to name a few. I appreciate how detailed each segment provided a step by step process. A great listen and short enough to listen again!
