Acerca de esta escucha

Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, has a passion, but it’s not for chasing ladies or gambling till dawn. No, his is the far more dangerous pursuit of the science of chemistry. He may be a tad eccentric, but he can navigate a society ballroom, and manage a polite conversation—if he must. He’s certainly capable of taking care of his aunt’s perfectly behaved poodle, Lancelot, while she’s on holiday.

Elizabeth “Bitsy” Dockering, third daughter of a viscount, is enjoying her second spectacular Season in London. She is a Diamond of the Season and is adored by all—and especially by her precious black poodle, Galahad. To everyone else, however, Galahad is a demon dog. So much so that Bitsy’s most insistent beau and particular victim of Galahad’s bad manners has hired a thief to steal the dog, clearing the way for his suit.

But none of them can plan for a chaotic encounter in the park, resulting in lost notes, a soaking in the Serpentine, and an accidental dog swap…and Lancelot being kidnapped instead of Galahad! Determined to locate the dog, Michael isn’t thrilled to be saddled with a flighty female insisting on helping, except that Bitsy has a great deal more sense than he expected—and a sharp tongue to match. Still, what’s a scientist to do but continue to pursue an outcome, however unexpected it may be? But chemistry is all about attraction, and this is one formula with some hilariously romantic results.

This was a pretty good story—if a bit long. I enjoyed the main couple, and the secondary couple as well.

Pretty good story!

I always like the play of opposites. Who could be more different from the society darling and diamond of two seasons than a rude, antisocial Duke only interested in science? Bitsy is warm, gracious and beautiful. Michael is tall, formidable and downright offensive. He doesn’t believe that anyone in the ton is worthy of his time or attention. Bitsy/Elizabeth is kind and welcoming to everyone. But when first one black poodle is stolen and then a second one, Elizabeth and the dour Michael team up to recover them and find that opposites produce electricity! Darling and fun. Mark Meadows superbly portrays all the eccentric and often lovable characters in the ‘poodlegate’.

If you're needing a lighthearted listen that is charming and fun, try this audiobook. Especially enjoyable was the perspective given from the male main character and all the twists and turns in the story.
The situational humor brought laughter a number of times.
Mark Meadows did an excellent job narrating all the characters!

I really enjoyed this grumpy sunshine/opposites attract story. The narrator did a wonderful job distinguishing between characters consistently and really brought the characters to life.

This is a very cute and well told story with some interesting characters. I really enjoyed the narrator and the characters' growth through the story.

Great book and wonderful story

This is actually a very fun story. It’s quite humorous, with a tongue-in-cheek and even satirical feel to it. There’s a lot of activity driving the storyline, which circles around the dognapping of two very different poodles. The recovery of said poodles brings our two (equally different) MCs together as they investigate the disappearance and rescue their dogs. There is an eclectic cast of characters and canines, and a perfectly cheesy ending.

For those who enjoy audiobooks, the narrator is excellent.

Content:
My one complaint is the language. Words like “hell”, “damn”, and “shit” are used, but more than that, the phrase “for God’s sake” is expressed fairly regularly, especially in the beginning. Though the romance is limited to a few kisses with little description, there are a couple inappropriate sexual comments made in the narration regarding the MMC’s dreams and attraction to the FMC.

A fun story

Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, is considered eccentric by the Ton. He is interested in science, detests Society events, and is somewhat grumpy. Elizabeth Dockering (Bitsy to her friends is the daughter of Viscount Mardensea. She is charming, loquacious, enjoys Society events, and is very popular. What can these two people have in common? Their dogs are missing. Well, Michael’s aunt’s dog, Lancelot, and Elizabeth’s dog Galahad. Michael begins to loosen up, and he and Elizabeth bicker and snap their way to fun and romance. The villain, an erstwhile suitor, is unpleasant and worse. The story is a romcom centered around the search for their missing poodles. In addition to the romance, there is dognapping(s), mixed up dogs (mistaken identity), a dip in the Serpentine for a duke, romance for a reformed (maybe) thief, and happy endings enough to go around. The narrator does a good job of arrogant aristocratic voices as well as the rookery accent.

She, Positive. He, Negative. Together, Electric!
