Ellie lost her mother to pneumonia three years ago and has had to take over the cooking and washing chores to help her father and two older brothers. After eating a lot of humble pie, he enlists Ellie's help to teach him manners and proper etiquette. Her biggest fear is she will never have time to find love because of all of her responsibilities.

Cathy is extremely shy and afraid to talk to boys in spite of being beautiful. Her parents are always enlisting her help to babysit her younger brothers so she misses out on a lot of social activities...that is until she bumps into her prince charming.

Becky is beautiful and has everything she wants. Her most difficult decision will be choosing which two pairs of shoes she will take west out of her dozen or more. She is a natural flirt and not a bit snobby despite having everything she wants. Love finds her in a most unusual way.

I was very impressed with the writers knowledge of the period. This was a difficult time for people of that era. Christy has captured the art of the time which was cooking in Dutch ovens and heavy steel pots and pans. You can tell she has done her research if you know anything about this time period. Also, you may be expecting one love story and you end up with several love stories all tied together. This book is a lot of fun and lets you take a trip back in time.
