Acerca de esta escucha

Omnians, Earthers, and alliance members are fighting the Colony, the horde of sentient insectoids that threaten alliance space.

The Colony has had centuries to expand through the network of domes built by the Messinants, an ancient race. The domes’ Q-gates allow the insectoids to invade planets through their inventive use of rings, which extends the power of the domes.

It’s Omnian superior technology that gives a temporary advantage to the peaceful alliance members who lead the fight to retake their planets.

Omnian warships and fighters, Tridents and travelers, possess beam weapons to destroy the Colony’s shuttles and transports. However, the Colony escalates, turning its transports into deadly explosive traps.

In the past, the few alliance races that fought back could barely hold the line against the Colony’s seemingly never-ending incursions. Now, Jess Cinders leads a group of dedicated veterans armed with explosive dart weapons borrowed from the Loopah race.

Again, it’s the Omnian advanced tech that changes the dynamics in favor of the veterans. Engineers upgrade an invention first used decades ago. It’s a shadow, a multilegged avatar, with a mounted laser.

Unfortunately, for those races fighting to halt the Colony’s expansion, the insectoids aren’t willing to retreat. They fight back with even deadlier tactics that take the lives of the unwary.

Very disappointing that they switched narrators on this series. This one, Nicole Poole, sounds like a computer-generated voice and not in a good SADE-like way. Did this narrator even listen to the original narrator? Grover Gardner, to learn how various words were pronounced in the first dozen or so books. The performance was so distracting that the overall book was less enjoyable. Unfortunately, Nicole Poole or, more appropriately, a computer tagged Nicole Poole (Siri, Alexa. etc.) is the narrator for the remainder of the series. SH Jucha needs to fire the producers of his audio books.

Another botched narration

I enjoyed the Silver Ship Series and the 16th book is no exception. The Omnians, Earthers and alliance members are fighting sentient insectoids that are invading Alliance worlds; but, I had the feeling the book is sort of a completion of a story and a set up for a new challenge for Alex and friends. I cannot wait to start the next installment.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is twelve hours and thirty-five minutes. Nicola Poole does a good job narrating the book. Poole is a classical trained actress. She has won multiple Earphone Awards and has been nominated for an Audie Award. I do miss Grover Gardener narrating the series. Grover was the only narrator until recently. He was one of my favorite narrators. I assume he has retired after almost thirty years of narrating audiobooks. I sorely miss the sound of his voice.

Engaging

Stopped listening an hour into a series and author I love. Storyteller’s narration is so stiff, the rich nuances of Juvha’s writing is lost. Absolutely terrible.

Good Story Butchered by robotic narration.

I've just this year completed all the Silver Ships series. this sequel is good though it cast the characters in changing roles. little focus on Alex and Julian and Rene and more of a focus on the next set of strong leaders to pushback or find a solution to the invaders. I continue to listen and enjoy the stories and look forward to the next ones to come.

Interesting Contuation and Worth the Listen

I’m not sure how many followers of the silver ships series ended up reading the Pyrean Series. But I do know lots of the negative reviews for this book are about Nichole Poole, who is also the reader for the Pyrean Series. At first, I was taken aback by her narration but I grew to like the series as a whole by the end. I would even I say that I liked the story of the Pyreans more than the Silver Ships series.

So in regards to Earthers: I haven’t finished this book. I think I would enjoy it despite the change in narration. And maybe I will finish the book in the future. But I find myself stopping with the Silver Ships series because the story has less novelty and the solutions to conflicts are not as inventive as before. I really liked the books up to Alliance and as I said, the Pyrean Series was great. But the quality of the books hasn’t been as good since and I find that more jarring than the change in narration.

If you read the Pyrean Series

While this narrator does a lot better job then previous book (fortunately she only did one book). I don’t feel optemistic of the rest of the books in this series. I would still recommend this series to anyone who is interrested in this genre but I would advice them to read instead of listening.

Decent story, narrator not so much

Different voices for various characters was poor. I think I have listened to her before and she did ok, it is this specific book.

Voice actor different voices

Needed the same style of narrator as the beginning series. The different voices for different characters sounded old and forced.

Poor narration.

Story enjoyable as rest of series. The halting computer generated sounding reader made it difficult for me to truly enjoy the book. -- It should be re-recorded.

Computer generated Reader?
