Sometimes family isn't what you're born to.
It's who you fight to survive with.
When scientists discover how to fold space and teleport men to planets that are light years away, spaceships will soon become obsolete. Humankind will soon spread throughout the galaxy.
Dan Jensen is a self-made man - an entrepreneur, an adventurist, never satisfied with what he has or where he's at. When an accident during the first attempt at interstellar teleportation puts him on an alien world, he finds himself marooned with a geologists, a flower shop owner, an old man and an RPG playing high school geek...total deadweight.
Stuck with them, Dan forms bonds that he never would have wanted, but can't live without. Will his skills be enough to keep four practically useless stragglers safe from the dangers of an alien world?
And can they save Dan from himself?

The story is intriguing and well thought out. The adventures of the 5 castaways reminds me of several classics like Mysterious Island and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I enjoyed the discoveries made by the stranded and how they learned to work together to survive being thrown across the galaxy.
I read the book first and, once I saw it on Audible, bought that too. Michael Kramer does an excellent job on the narration. I felt like he portrayed the characters similar to how I envisioned them when I had read the book.
Well worth the read for young and old. Prepare for a story that will take you to another, unexplored planet.

I really WANTED to enjoy this book. Survival on an alien planet is exactly the storyline I was looking for and it handled that in spades! The survival aspects were very well done.....however, I have never read or listened to a book where I felt the authors personality so clearly. Each character in this story was less a person than a voice for viewpoints the author himself has. As I continued listening, I really struggled trying to figure out who the authors intended audience might be.
I finally figured out that it feels like an elderly grandfather telling his young grandchildren a bedtime story in which he is using the story to teach morals/ethics he wants his grandchildren to learn. This isnt so much a story as a parable. Unfortunately, it is extremely obvious that the author is from an older generation or from a very sheltered and religious lifestyle or both, and has little actual experience in normal society. This leads to some of the most cringe-worthy statements and situations I have ever read....especially when it comes to "romance".
Note to the author: it IS possible to have characters that are deeply spiritual without quoting scripture/praying/hearing the voice of God *cringe* every 2 seconds. It is also possible to "teach" a lesson to your audience without shoving it down their throat. And as a side note...any audience you might attract with this genre doesnt need to be spoon fed the storyline to Lord of the Rings.
As for the narrator...he was, of course, amazing as always.
