Stevie Cutter's father vanished on a flight over the South Pacific when she was 13. Now, 30 years later, when she visits her dying mother in San Francisco, she is given her father's diary and plunged into a dangerous chain of events that will change her life forever.
In the back of the diary is a hidden message with a clue to her father's fate and a treasure map. But someone else is hunting for the treasure, too, and, in their pursuit, threatens to destroy all that she loves.

So Stevie’s mom is diagnosed with “terminal cancer” and gets a phone call on the house phone ( Stevie has moved home when we meet her.) the doctor wants to talk to her. Umm. Not ever gonna happen.
They kill a dude and leave the body to go to the hospital and cops are at the hospital because “Aunt Emma” called in the murder. There are no cops at the house when they return (after NSA claims ownership of the family, with a story they’re wanted for an international conspiracy). There is also no dead body.
Dude, who was a friend of Stevie’s dad, has been squatting in a hangar for three decades. In those three decades he’s never had an inkling to reach out to the family. Then he comes clean about his knowledge of the treasure.
The family lawyer was the third player. He’s 80+ years old. Still practicing law. And now he comes clean with his research and notes about the treasure.
NO ONE is distressed, depressed, sad, or grieving about poor dead mom/Grandma. Because yeah, Stevie’s son hops the first plane to check on mom when she abruptly hangs up on his, doesn’t answer her phone, doesn’t call to explain why she hung up. Seriously, I wanted to buy a troll head so I could cease rolling MY eyes.
This was the STUPIDEST thing I’d ever listene to. JL Reboer was a cross between an ADHD Siri hyped up on caffeine and espresso and someone trying to get past the worst project she’d ever undertaken and trying to get the book done.
This was Kit Crumb’s second chance and I’m flabbergasted Kit had the audacity to put out more books. Talk about having brass balls.
The language clearly isn’t for young ears but the writing is simplistic enough a second grader could read 99% of it.
Highly recommended to be trashed, discarded, and requested a refund.
