There are many things that go bump in the night, and I am one of them.
As a vampyr who was born to fulfill a prophecy, my life was planned before I was created. I obeyed every rule, and I became the perfect vampyr, but one night changed everything.
Rejected by the man who was destined for me, who was supposed to love me forever, I do the only thing I can. I flee into the night, nursing my broken heart.
Being a rejected mate corrupts the soul, however, and in this game of Courts and Kings, nobody wins. Nobody except the monsters in the shadows. The monsters that save me, welcome me, and make me one of them.
Welcome to the Court of Nightmares, where all your wicked dreams come true.

Good but Storyline and Narration Needs Work

I would have rated it higher but unfortunately, the male narrator honestly kinda killed the book. and not in a good way. the woman who narrated should have just done the entire thing better because she nailed their voices and accents. the male narrator, was terrible. specifically, with Reeves. the man is supposed to have an Irish accent but somehow his internal dialogue is without an accent...? that's not how that works. ALSO, dude couldn't even keep it up the entire time (harsh pun intended). he slipped on the accent so much, from like British to Australian so times unrecognizable. he's just bad.
despite being left unsatisfied because I wanted so much more to it, I would have rated this much higher had she done all the narration by herself. the author could have also saved herself a ton of money I'm sure lol
I did enjoy the characters, and the plot that was seemingly in the room with us, was also good.
had such potential, kinda flopped.
overall .. 3.8

Overall, the audio isn't bad. Definitely nothing to be excited about as far as any emotions put into the reading....it's just.....reading for the most part. idk how to explain it. It worked for the purpose of me needing to listen during work vs reading the physical book.
audio is just ok...some of the characters are not consistent

Needs some study on operative words and how they affect storytelling.

Althea is a true queen. Much like the other FMCs in this series, Althea sees injustices and knows she can right them. She believed the vampyrs could be better if they tried. I enjoyed how Althea had a family in Simon but also found her place with her kings.
Each of the kings were unique, offered something Althea needed, and had their own pasts they were trying to come to terms with. I can’t pick a favorite because they were all completely obsessed with her and devoted to her from the start. They all cared about her in their own way.
I enjoyed the overall theme that darkness is not bad or evil, it just is. I liked how each of the characters had powers that reflected their different personalities.
Not sure if I would listen to the audio again but it was included in the Audible plus catalog so I didn’t need to use a credit to listen.
