Charley never expected to spend Christmas in a hospital, helping his wife fight for her life. With this shadow cast over his holiday season, Charley finds an unlikely friend in Henry, an old man who likes to listen to the bells in the park next to the hospital. Charley finds a sympathetic ear in Henry, a man who went through the crisis of losing his wife—twice.

As Henry unfolds his remarkable life story, Charley finds solace in the lessons he learns there, but wonders if he will be able to apply them himself when the time comes. When Charley approaches his darkest hour, he must find out for himself that “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep.”

This was a short, sweet and sad story of hope. I listened to the audio version of the book and the author was good. However, I could have done without his singing...(smiley face) Charley is struggling with his wife being in the hospital with brain cancer. Then he meets Henry, an older man full of experience and stories of loss and grief of his own. I enjoyed this quick read. I just should have waited to read it closer to Christmas. It put me in the Christmas mood. Thanks to Story Origin for sharing the audio version of this book with me.

"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." A song we all hear at Christmastime. Where did it come from? Who wrote it?
This is an emotional little story of Charley at Christmastime struggling with his wife in the hospital with brain cancer. He finds a listening ear in Henry. In fact, Henry is full of experience and life lessons. They bond while listening to the bells of a neighboring church.
This book seems to be historically correct. I really enjoyed it.
I actually received an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. I really did not care for this narration. The narrator gave Henry, who IS very old, a very scratchy, decrepit voice. Very irritating. I felt he could have just used a normal voice. With the description the author gave us, we knew he was old. It was especially bad when he sang the song! 2 stars for him.
